Another Veterans "Charity"
Received a large envelope in yesterdays mail from "Disabled Veterans National Foundation" stuffed with the usual cheap ballpoint pens, a planner, some weird woven gloves and a check for $1.50 made out to bearer.... and a plea for donations to help homeless veterans. (Why do these places send all this crap with requests for donations other than I guess it must work. )
Googled the specifics on this "charity" and such a deal: 75% of their funding goes to "administrative fees and fund raising". 25% goes to actual veteran services. and in FY 2018, on revenue of > 27M, they spent 2.5M on actual services to veterans. Makes you wonder how many people send money to these places and never check on just where their money is going ? d

Yup - I would hazard to guess that most "charities" are simply corporations that do not actually offer any product or service and trickle down a fraction of their take to maintain their tax-exempt status. For example, there was one kids cancer "charity" that was actually a front for political donations and personal expenses of the board members.
The amount of their tax exemption should be based on how much cash actually flows to a legit organization. And I think the people who set up "GoFundMe" charity drives should be 1099'd for the amount raised, and then have to prove to the IRS what they did with the money. There was a shooting at a mall last week, and several GoFundMe collections popped up claiming to be collecting for expenses for the families.

Yeah that’s crap. Part of the reason why I decline when asked at checkout if I want to contribute to XXYY charity. There are so many that consume more than 50% of their intake for “administrative expenses” or similar BS.

I used to contribute to a charity for paralyzed vets until I found out about their "admin" fees. Now I contribute to Gary Sinise

Yep, charities are so often just fronts for a few people to rake in huge bucks. I do donate to the Salvation Army as they have no large salaries for the administration staff. I also donate to a local charity called the Sunbeam Family foundation. They provide real help to families from young to old.

I donate my time and money to Project Healing Waters. Wounded Warrior is another charity a bit suspect but they're better than most.
