They truly are! Several years ago, one flew in (silently of course) and perched on a limb in the woods about 25' behind me as I fished my pond. Stayed there for mebbe 30 minutes .... gave me the "stink eye" whenever I threw a bass back in .... then he was gone .... just as stealthy as he arrived.

We had a pair of these in our yard in CA. Good watch birds!

I hear them hooting every night. I can hear at least three. Started up about 3 weeks ago.

There’s one in the back yard. Have never gotten a good look. But we hoot back and forth some nights while in the hot tub.

A few years back...driving down my road in the winter-time, I noticed something that looked like a snowman in the top of a large tree.
The snowy owl is about out of it's range in Michigan...but there it was. I swear it was at least two foot tall...huge bird.

Was pulling out of the driveway one morning at zero dark thirty. An Owl had swooped down and just about hit the windshield. It was huge! I almost pooped!

It finally made sense to me as to why they turn their heads so much, when I read that they don't have any eye muscles.
Was on a motorcycle trip once and going down a road that was a tunnel of trees. An owl decided to go down the same tunnel, just above helmet height. Huge bird with a wing span that must have been 3-4 feet wide. Came in from behind and passed low just before pulling up and exiting the trees. Quite the scare even if I was only doing 30-35mph.
