Demon spot in my house - weird vibration / noise

Yesterday I chatted with the neighbor but he's not showering at 7 precisely every day ;-) I turned off the icemaker and thought I had it as it was quiet yesterday (or I didn't wake up). Nope, this morning it came back, 6:58 AM ;-) for about 20 minutes. Effing strange.

Went outside ready for battle. Confirmed that I can hear that noise very faintly by putting my ear on the copper pipe where the water main enters the house under the top floor (but nothing as loud as inside my walk-in closet). Can't hear anything from the top floor (street level) as the garage floor is concrete, it's definitely appearign to be the water pipe vibrating / pinging on something. I turn off the main water valve, noise stops immediately...

Still, I'm NOT using any water at the time. And why 7AM ?

No water runnign anywhere inside, went outside and looked all around, no signs of any leaks. Found an old "water bird" sprinkler controller I did not know we had, that gave me hope as I unplugged it and it showed a 7AM runtime but it was disconnected from any water pipes anyway and not in use. Came back in the house, noise started again as if to mock me.

Followed the pipe (inacessible behind walk in closet wall and foundation) to where I could see it in the water heater / utility room - the pipe is fine and not noisy or vibrating there.. So it's really somehwere between entry point into the house and the middle of the walk in closet. 12 FT tops. The timing though ? If it were demonic in nature I'd expect 1:37 AM to maximize annoyance.

I'm about ready to slice some drywall and look. For all I know its a stupid clamp bouncing on the line, which may vibrate a tiny bit due to fairly solid water pressure... Still 7AM ???

Funny story about this demon house - spent the first few months living here wondering if the demon was throwing a bouncy ball upstairs every night. doink doink, doink doink doink.. That one turned out to be one orange from the orange tree gently hitting the siding of the house, on the absolute opposite side of the house and one floor above. These shacks in Cali are made of popsicle sticks and plaster, and carry all the noises long distances..

If you grab the pipe in the utility room does the noise stop?

How far is the nearest water tower from you? Does your town even have those?

Maybe that's when the pumps fill the tank. Still wouldn't really explain why it would make a sound in your house.

So no... I can't even hear the noise there. It seems contained to that impossible to reach area between the wall and between the walk in closet "room" and the foundation. No choice but to remove some drywall there. Gotta aim right. I had shaken the pipe further down the line and rubber-padded an area that could have been guilty. Not it.

Water tower ? No idea. I also contacted the utility to check the water meter. We'll see if they show up.
There's a reservoir on top of the hill, a few min away but really this is a new problem... at my house.

If you have one of these near your house it should be easy to spot.

hahhaha..i have no help to offer, but thanks for the laugh.

The mice have built a shower in the hidden space and are on a strict work schedule. Must shower after night of hard work scavenging your pantry.
What you need is a pair of noise cancelling headphones. Or earplugs.

It sounds like your house is fairly new. Any chance you can get the plumbing plans from the builder? Maybe there is something in that wall.

I should bring this to a close... The water pressure was the issue... Apparently at that time of the day (7AM) it's at its highest - don't ask me why. My pipes were getting a peak of 97PSI and average just about 90 the rest of the day (conveniently I have a faucet for a hose right at the water main before it enters the house). Apparently that's too much for plumbing and 50-60 is recommended but hey, I enjoyed getting sandblasted in my showers (explains why I'm so white).

Also the path of the main pipe before it split across the various faucets was directly touching the house frame without any insulators... The poor plumber squished his 6'2 frame in places where man hasn't set foot in 60 years+ and installed rubber insulators where there was contact and a pressure lowering valve outside that I can still adjust. I settled at 65 to get still decent shower pressure but less strain on the system. Now that I think of it, prior to this demon noise, I had a picture frame vibrating on a wall in the morning too near that location that I never questioned - I assumed it was a train or something and put rubber stuff behind it, duh - looks like it was rattling the whole house at peak pressure time... Also since that was done, I observed that both neighbors have the same pressure reducing device (they look like bells) right where the water main enters the house... Our house did not... Exorcised !!!

Wow, that is a lot of water pressure. It would be an instant catastrophe if you spring a leak in one of those pipes.

I guess my house passed the pressure test for 60 years or so ;-)
