Low header pressure for the engines doomed them to overreact to compensate.
Obviously too much velocity upon touch down.
BUT, the flight control software was meant to be tested to the extreme. You could see that in the nozzle servo system response.
Vehicle was properly oriented upon landing, thus test is a success.

Sierra Nevada's "Dream Chaser" could've glided to a nearby airstrip (as this vehicle returned to its home) and landed.

95% went well - I believe Space X was otherwise ecstatic.

And btw - that's like a 12 story building taking off and doing that flip!
