Snow's a comin'

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1608049647.jpg

Well, something's coming.

Here in Va. I'm thinking mostly ice. Not enough to set up the snowblower snow, but enough to hang a blade on my dad's newly restored ford. Should be fun.

I could use a little mayhem.

fastfredracing 12-15-2020 07:40 AM

Supposed 6-8 inches starting tomorrow . I dug out the plow truck last night . I always enjoy pushing around the first big snow. After that, the rest of winter just sucks

flatbutt 12-15-2020 07:55 AM

NWS is calling for 12 to 18 up my way. I'll believe it when I see it, but the gererator is ready to go.

LEAKYSEALS951 12-15-2020 07:56 AM

Yeah. Know that feeling. Round here, lately, it's rare enough to keep it entertaining. I like to taunt the weather just to spur it on. Sometimes it works.

We'll see.

I can see this further conflustering recent usps delays. I want my ebay stuff!

GH85Carrera 12-15-2020 08:02 AM

We had 5 inches of snow on Sunday, and another 5 inches expected today. It was nice yesterday and most of the roads were clear for the melting.

We are going back to clear skies and highs in the 50s and 60s tomorrow for the next 9 days.

flatbutt 12-15-2020 08:40 AM

We were just getting to the point where ice on the pond was safe. This is going to mess up the pond hockey big time.

stevej37 12-15-2020 08:40 AM

That winter weather is following the coast north.
Our weatherman said he could almost guarantee a green Christmas for us. (yeah right)

Not looking forward to 8-12" in Brooklyn. No where to put the damn stuff.

Can't dump it in the river?

Porsche-O-Phile 12-15-2020 09:47 AM

Don’t miss that stuff (or the apprehension / worrying about it) AT ALL! Stay safe and best of luck y’all!

onewhippedpuppy 12-15-2020 12:04 PM

1-3” here, snowing now. Should be gone by Thursday, thank God.

I really miss the snow this year after moving back to Texas.

Three years in Watertown NY, 20 miles from Canada and 200+ inches of snow per year!!!

Bavaria and most recently DC.

All had snow and 4 seasons. Now I have the 7th circle of Hell summer and a day or two in the 30s. Its really funny watching people bundle up here when it gets below 50.

stevej37 12-15-2020 12:54 PM

I might gripe about the snow...but I really do like the distinct four seasons that MI has.
It's always changing, and the summers are one the best of all the places I've lived.

cabmandone 12-15-2020 01:07 PM

I told my wife she's getting 3-6" tonight! :D

stevej37 12-15-2020 01:11 PM

^^^ She'll get over it. :D

Rot 911 12-15-2020 01:30 PM

We got 4 inches of snow on Sunday. Got the snowblower out, got the driveway and all the sidewalks done in less than an hour. Nothing to get too excited about.

matthewb0051 12-15-2020 02:00 PM

This is the reason for snow!!!

If it snows, I'll pull off the mower deck and put on the blade. Not even going to bother weighting the tires. It will be neet to see what AGs do in light snow. I've never used them before. Tomorrow's storm is K.I.S.S.

I'm betting we get ice here in my part of Virginia.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1608078944.JPG

Edit - I would like to get a larger storm to mount my snowblower on my other garden tractor. I overdrove the two stage impeller drive ratio, repowered the mower to 23 hp, and added multiple lights to the snow blower chute to light the plume of far flinging snow for glorious nighttime snowblowing videos! :)

The river doesn't run in front of my house.😁😁

I live on the north-west side of a mountain ridge that is a south - east ridge. When we get a Nor’easter, the front rips around that ridge and just dumps snow in my neighborhood. A couple of years ago, while the rest of my town got 1 foot, we got 3 feet! Hope that’s not what happens this time around...

Clearly a Texas snowblower. The blade on my garden tractor is only 42 inches. A walk behind has NO BUSINESS being 45 inches wide!!!!!!:D

Sounds like where I live along the Green Pond Mtn ridge, but I live on the WNW side. Nor'easters do the same here but the valley acts like a wind tunnel and it's always 15 degrees colder on this side of the ridge.

Rtrorkt 12-16-2020 06:18 AM

Chilly 37 hear in N Phoenix. Might have to put on long sleeves to play 18

I had my compass points incorrect -- I also live on the NW side of a SE ridge. The ridge is in the middle of Ramapo Mountain State Forest.

Current forecast for our area is 12-16 inches. Which can mean 2 or more feet on my street. Then again, it can also mean 2 inches: don't forget, the weatherman is 90% correct, 10% of the time!

Do they still close Skyline Drive in this kind of weather?

fastfredracing 12-16-2020 08:47 AM

Got an inch so far, coming down pretty good. I just got my marching orders to plow the few lots that I do .
The cab mount is out of my rusty old plow truck. I planned on fixing it this summer, but spent the entire year on my garage . Im going to jam a 2x4 up in there and go . Ghetto fabulous
6 am tomorrow morning, I will be on top of this huge steep gravel hill , way up in the woods, preparing to push the snow down. Its one of my favorite moments of the season. I always start there. Its a bit of a chore to climb my way up in if there is a lot of snow. I then , shut off the truck, drink some coffee, and just take in natures majesty for a few minutes .
The rest of winter ... blech

Why yes, yes they do. But they have gotten much better at clearing it, starting with a couple of sprayed layers of brine salt water...

More often it is closed because some biker or BMW driver thought they knew how to ride / drive...

I once rode my 10 speed bicycle from Paterson, into Hawthorne to pick up a buddy and we then rode up Goffle Road to 208 and UP Skyline Drive. That was a long long time ago.

pete3799 12-16-2020 02:19 PM

Put the plow on my 1 ton today but not expecting much up here. 2 to 6 inches or so.

Thats a tough route! I once did a bike hike from North Haledon through Ringwood and into Tuxedo, but via Greenwood Lake Turnpike. 40 miles total, and the hill going up Sloatsburg Rd was killer - but not nearly as steep as Skyline Drive.

FYI: Skyline drive is already closed, with merely a dusting of snow on the ground at this point...

rfuerst911sc 12-17-2020 02:44 AM

I received a text from my brother this morning he lives in Vestal N.Y. which is 10 miles from the PA border . they woke to 3 ' of snow and it's still coming down . He has to shovel a path to the garage so he can get to his snow thrower . He has three large dogs , two are labs the other a pit mix . My brother opened the door this morning to let them out they turned right around and went back in the house . Dogs aren't stupid ! :D

flatbutt 12-17-2020 04:57 AM

Still snowing lightly here. As expected the prediction was worse than the reality we have maybe one foot here. Still enough for XC skiing though.

rfuerst911sc 12-17-2020 05:05 AM

My brother just sent me a text it stopped snowing at his house about 30 minutes ago . Total accumulation is 40 inches so they grossly over achieved vs the prediction of 8-12 inches . I moved from NY over 30 years ago I miss NOTHING about their winters !

NY65912 12-17-2020 05:07 AM

Got 4" total. Roads are pretty clear, made it in to work with no problem. These weather people do enjoy the doomsday scenarios. But I guess it is better to predict more for safety's sake.

cabmandone 12-17-2020 05:26 AM

Wait till we get another "Bomb Cyclone"...

jcommin 12-17-2020 05:28 AM

I have a son born and raised in Chicago has lived in Philadelphia for the past 6 years. He has experience with Chicago winters. He laughs at winter in Philly.

Yesterday he calls me with total excitement. "It is snowing here, the first time in 650 days". He then sends me pics and the are several inches on the ground with more to come. At 26 you would think the excitement over snow would be a thing of the past but, he was having fun.

Me - I'm glad it's there and not here.

cabmandone 12-17-2020 08:57 AM

I love it when it snows! The deer are easier to see moving through the woods and it's easier to track coyotes when there's a fresh snow.

I'm a lot older than your son and unashamed to say my 'snow excitement age' is about the same as an 8yr old child when it starts snowing

Love the stuff!
