Living to 120 and beyond

The "Top 60 ways Americans die each year" thread reminded me of an ad I get from time to time on YouTube regarding stock pics. One ad speaks of a technology firm that is on the brink of a new technology that could allow humans to live to be 1000 years old and various bio-firms working on the technology and the likes of Bezos are investing in the companies. So I tried to look up the company but didn't find anything. I did find multiple articles on the possibility of living to 1000 and. This article on people living to 120 caught my attention. If this stands to be true that the average person lives to 120 or longer and the world birth rate continues as it is the long term ramifications become a major issue. Space, the ability to supply food, cleanliness issues just to name a few. Then there will be the question of selective birth I suppose? Considering the abortion rate, does government decide who lives and who dies, who is born and who isn't, sterilization? Scary thoughts.

Then there is this guy,

No thanks. Most people I’ve seen make it past about 85 are hoping to die.

That’s usually because their body has deteriorated. What if it didn’t. What if your 30’s lasted until you were 50 and so forth....?

Personally I think it’s a bad idea to play God. Regardless of your religious convictions that’s playing with fire. Pretty soon we’re all zombies.

Yep. I'm a healthy 60 yr old and I have no interest in getting extremely old. People who are obsessed w anti-aging are people who are terrified of their own mortality, IMO. It's a common thing.

Plus, can you imagine being on some tinder site for geezers and being called old by an 85 y.o. woman? That would sting.

If I make it to 85, Tinder is the least of my concerns.

My lady friend of several decades who turned 107 last month had been wanting to leave for several years now. It has opened up my eyes to the discomfort of living so long.

Should we live forever?

I think even if the bodies stay young longer, maybe our brains will get tired of all the **** that's going on, get off my lawn type of thinking.

With a pace maker, a chemo port, a newly rebuilt hip, and teeth implants (thanks to the radiation/chemo) I feel like the "6 million dollar man" without any extra speed, or power...no ****** way this body makes it to 120, i'll be doing damned good to hit 90 !

Why would you want to outlive all your friends and family ?

Im 45 and still feel like im 18.

Body is taking longer for things to heal, though... I wouldnt mind having interchangeable arms/tools. I expect to see some pretty amazing medical tech in the next 10/20 years.

The thing I noticed was alcohol processing.

50 is just a 'young pup'.
60 is where you start wondering when you will feel old.

Just keep drinking to avoid the hangover

I'm in fair health at 58, about 20 lbs over weight, high cholesterol (had my entire adult life), back and shoulder damage (arthritis), agree with many here in not intending to live beyond my ability to be somewhat self sufficient and happy.

Having dealt first hand with my parents and now MIL going down the dementia hole both my wife and I have a new perspective and are changing up our plans accordingly.
