Nope. No special effort on my part. I was just playing with my dingaling and the 1200 and 600 showed up what last checking my bank balance. I’m ambidicsorous so to speak. Or...... Maybe my non Anglo surname helped. For once in my life.

If you direct deposited a refund...you should get the check the same way..and early.

I think you're right, now that I think about it.

I've always paid in - and done so by snail mail - so that explains it.

Have you ever received any IRS refunds by direct deposit - or paid in that way - online and direct from your bank?

Good point and one that I think most of us already realize.

But for someone like me on SS - how will I be affected by future tax increases?

I think I’d turn that around to ask why someone on social security who has had uninterrupted income during 2020 should receive a “stimulus” check. There are lots of people who are genuinely hurting, those are the folks who deserve a check. But they aren’t me, and I suspect they aren’t either of us.

Nope.

BTW. Since I worked as County Investigator my SS pension was based on my prior jobs which weren’t high pay. I get 500 a month. That doesn’t cover my 2020 Mercedes and insurance payment.

So I do still work. SS my county pension and other jobs I pick up. I used to do PI work for attorneys until i irked the police union in Colorado.

I don't think anyone "deserves" a check, but if you want to do something like this, make it a bit more straight forward. The way it is done makes no sense. If you call it "stimulus," give it to everyone. If it is "social welfare," limit it to those that are poor. If it is "unemployment," give it to the unemployed. In this case, it is income-based, social welfare that they call stimulus. Just an excuse to buy votes with a cash bonus for living during an election year that also had a pandemic. A gift of money taken from other current and future taxpayers without their permission.

I understand what you're saying - but isn't part of the whole concept that I take that stimulus money and go spend it at local restaurants who have been dinged - and could really use the extra business?

Or other similarly dinged industry?

Now if you want to talk about my situation - how about I'm paying property taxes every year with the largest portion going to the local school system. And I've never had children.

I'm not mad or anything. It's just the way things are set up.

It appears there's a limit on how much logic can go into an action by our government.

It's just the way it is.....;)

Nothing personal Baz, you’re definitely one of the good guys here and I mean you no offense. I understand your situation, I send my kids to private school and my taxes go to fund public school that my kids don’t go to. But such is life. I’m not sure if sending everybody a check really gives a benefit to those that are suffering, I suspect a disproportionate amount of that money goes to Amazon, Walmart, and ultimately China.

Sorry but for all the news of how bad off people are, there’s a record boom of people buying homes, vacation properties, boats, RVs, i.e. discretionary purchases. Which means that a whole bunch of people aren’t feeling any pinch from 2020. ...

For MOST folks that I know personally, almost zero financial impact except spending in a different way. I joke about getting Uncle Sammy's FREE handout .... but am against these ... in any amount as they have been used... by BOTH parties. I did not get the stimulus under Bush (still employed), and don't need one now either. Service workers will get some bigly tips .... hope they don't get too used to it tho :D....

During the stimulus under Bush (which I think was $400)...I used the money to buy a Heineken Kegerator! I then found out that the only 5 liter kegs that would fit were Heinekens.
It's only been used twice....It sits on a shelf now.

$600 showed up in bank account this morning. Going to pay for Christmas bills (going to Jeff Bezos).

USA TODAY
Stimulus check Q&A: What happens if payments go from $600 to $2,000?
Josh Rivera, USA TODAY

Have you checked your bank account yet? Your economic impact payment may be coming soon.

Americans who have direct deposit set up through the Internal Revenue Service could have received their payment as early as Tuesday night. Paper checks are to start going out Wednesday, according to the Treasury Department.

And if you were wondering where things stand on the payments being bumped up to $2,000, it seems unlikely.

911boost 01-01-2021 03:15 PM

I pay plenty in taxes and will never see a dime from these stimulus checks.

We put $4000 in the bank instead of $1200.
They are way too late with the stimulus. For it to be a stimulus it should go to people who will spend it. Congress had 6 months to craft a sensible stimulus bill, and punted.

Why? Is your AGI over the limit for a check?

Single filer over $99,000 AGI and joint filers over $198,000 AGI and you don't get a check.
