Very good drive for Bottas. And congrats to the winner. Very unexciting drive for him, which is how I'm sure he wanted it. The rest of the race seemed pretty exciting, though. Lots of action throughout the peleton.
Max gets a 3-place grid penalty for the next race. Correct call? I would have chalked it up to a racing incident. |
Congrats to the winning papaya colored team. Who would have predicted Daniel winning before Lando?
As for “the crash”, Max will never admit he was in the wrong. He pushed Lewis off the track earlier after Lewis was more alongside. |
Max has been given a 3 spot grid penalty for the next race . The stewards apparently feel he was the major cause of the wreck .
|
Yeah, Max pushed Lewis off track earlier, so Lewis just returned the favor. That's the way Lewis will see it. Hamilton could have left more room in the 2nd incident, but then what sort of precedent would that set? I'll let you push me off the track, but I'll give you room when the tables are turned? You can't be a pushover out there. That'll make Max think twice next time this happens.
But if I'm RBR, I take this weekend as a win. Maybe not before that disasterous 11-second pit stop, but definitely after it. +2 on Hamilton for the weekend. |

I thought the incident began when Hammy left the pits and wedge himself between the McLaren and Max. Interesting that this penalty is more severe than the 10 second bollocks Hammy got at Silverstone. |
2 aggressive rivals just as we have seen before in history. Neither make me think much of them. Frankly, it's time for Hamilton to take some licks, and if he has to be immature about it, well it's his 8th championship to lose. In fact, I hope he never achieves it. Maybe the 2020 car won't suit him and he'll be at best a podium finisher.
Time for some new faces up there. |

That halo may have saved Hamilton's life or kept him from being a para/quadraplegic.
My sin and I kind of chuckled when the TV replays showed the reactions in the McLaren garage. Thr two women team members seemed shocked at the sight of the crash (maybe concerned about the safety of the two drivers?), whereas all the male mechanics erupted in cheers, knowing the two cars who could beat them out for P1 were both eliminated. |
Great last half of the race, I don’t like the track as passing is difficult.

Yea, the halo is not pretty, but it has no question, now saved two racers from death or severe injury.
|
In all fairness ....Hamiton gets a 10 second stop n go for a incedint and Verstapp gets a 3 place penality...

So it is not realistic that a 10-second pitstop penalty would result in loosing 3 places on the track? Seems to me that his 11-second pitstop put Verstappen back four places on the track to end up behind Hamilton. Guess you are right, completely unfair penalties.

Met Gala last night. Check out the #4 pancake he is wearing on his face.
His fashion sense is a little odd. Apparently he was there promoting young black designers. Or getting married :D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1631657357.jpg |

Lewis is his own person. I respect the heck out of that.
If you don't understand him, it is likely he doesn't give it much thought. Someone mentioned two lives saved by halos since they were instituted. I think the number is much higher. Grogean's crash last year was probably on their mind. I recall a clip F1 had on their site for a while of someone's car being launched over the cockpit of (Alonso"s?) car at Spa. Then there was Lance's roll over last year. It was nice being able to see more of the drivers before the cockpit sides got higher. It is nicer seeing the guys walk away. Best Les |
The dude sure gets around. Must have a heck of a private jet.
|
I’m sure a guy with a $55mm base salary can afford a decent jet.
|
I just looked it up, he had a pretty nice one but supposedly he has sold it and is now flying commercial.

They might as well go ahead and put a canopy on it. All the future projections show one.
............................................. I never saw a reason for Liberty Media to get into racing, but what do I know? They are associated with heir namesake, media, or mainly TV stuff. Plus Sirius FM. Maybe they thought some ownership of the Atlanta Braves (renamed?) was enough experience for live sports. Except that the AB are part of the MLB franchise system and they don't run that. IOW, they'd been better off buying a team. Maybe. Eccelstone earned his rep for how he worked it but one thing for sure, he was a F1 guy to the core. F1 needs to be in the hands of — — F1. |

Here's an interesting way to keep your ride.

I had never heard the Chase Carey "every GP should be like a Superbowl". No wonder the pre-race stuff got a little too scripted. |
Wow, what a qualifying. I bet no one picked the pole and 2nd and 3rd place qualifiers.
Hamilton proves he is human and makes a minor mistake. Astonishing. |
As always, first corner should be exciting
BTW this track looks better every year and usually puts out a pretty good race.
Lots of talent in F1 this year. Makes good racing. |
Looks like it's going to be a good race. Will the top three qualifiers be able to hold their positions? How quickly will Hamilton overtake them? How will Max (and Leclerc) do, carving through the field?
|
Some folks with Russel included are saying the Williams is " slippery " on the straights . I assume that is an aero reference and being slippery is a good thing . So if that is true how did they get there ? Have they slowly added or altered bits to remove drag ? The main car chassis I would think hasn't or can't change a lot per the rules. It is fun to watch the Williams slowly become competitive . Hope Russell has a great race today.
|
Just gutted for LeClerc. Gambled and lost. Carlos called it.
Best Les |
I believe next time Lando will listen to the team . The strategy could have worked out but obviously didn't . Good points day for McLaren. Apparently the Williams isn't as " slippery " as thought .

Yea, I bet Lando listens to the team next time. Just a shame for him the rain did not hold off for a few more laps. It sure helped Max however. |
Folks say the Russian GP is a great track. Fans should appreciate when they also schedule a downpour 8 laps from the end to mix it up.
|
Lando is only 21. Still learning to listen to his elders/orders.
