Walgreens and CVS Health have the ability to vaccinate 50 million Americans a month against Covid-19 once the shots are available to the general public by the end of March and early April, the drugstore chains said this week.

In separate presentations at this week’s JPMorgan Healthcare Conference, the nation’s two largest drugstore chains opened a window into how all retail pharmacies plan to dramatically ramp up vaccinations to one-third of the U.S. population. Of those Americans that will be eligible to get vaccines, “roughly 100 million (will be) available to retail pharmacy, and all pharmacies will take part in this mass vaccination,” Walgreens co-chief operating officer Alex Gourlay said Wednesday during the virtual JPMorgan event.

My wife and I got our first dose today. It was the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine. We have to wait 21 days minimum to get the second dose.

We had to sign up on-line on the Oklahoma Health Dept site, and then they sent an email to us each to get an appointment to get the shot. All the nearby places were booked, so we had to drive 95 miles each way to Weatherford, OK get the vaccine.

Now I guess I will have the uncontrollable urge to by Microsoft products and the genetic mutations begin.

If you have the vaccine, you will not develop the disease. If you are exposed, you will quickly fight it off. You will certainly be LESS INFECTIOUS than a person who develops a regular case of COVID since it take you body more time to fight it.

Just a data point for everyone. My wife and I both got our first shot on Jan 15th. The Pfizer shot.

Both of us had virtually no side effects. I had a tiny little red spot of blood at the needle site. The next day the inch or so around it felt warm to my fingers if I touched it. I did not get sore at all, and after three days there is no evidence we received a shot. I would expect that much reaction from a saline shot. So for us, it was a total breeze. (In fact the winds were winds up to 52 MPH that day) so a big breeze.

Just got informed i'm in fase 1a here in Belgium februari/early march.

The shot went fine. We had to sit in a room for 15 minutes after getting the vaccine to be observed. No pain in the shoulder YET and no knot at the injection site which is something I normally get from a flu shot. Only thing I'm noticing is some muscle spasms in my shoulder but that's probably unrelated. My wife and both kids had soreness and my oldest daughter had a headache and was fatigued the day after getting her shot.

I did take a cetirizine (allergy pill) before I went to get the vaccine.

Something of interest, or at least it was to me. I received the Moderna vaccine. I was discussing the vaccine with the person that was monitoring folks (no instruments or anything like that just watching to make sure no one has any reactions). I don't recall how long the timeframe was, but they only have a certain amount of time from the first injection from a vial to the last before a vial has to be thrown away. I think she said there are 10 doses per vial. So once tapped, they only have so long to give those 10 doses or the remainder have to be pitched. She said they're scheduling to make sure that every dose is being used.

I'm thinking she said it had to be used in 10 hours once the first dose is drawn but I'm not 100% sure about that. That might be hospital policy too based on what you posted from Moderna.

When the rest of you received your shot, did they watch you for a little while after receiving it? I thought this step made add a degree of difficulty since they need a room large enough to watch a certain number of people while still maintaining social distancing guidelines.

Yea, they asked us to sit in a room for 15 minutes. One person roamed around asking if everyone was OK. No temperature checks or any testing. After 15 minutes we just got up and left. No reaction to the injecton at all for either my wife or myself.

The 15 minute wait after the shot is standard procedure.

I kinda figured. While talking to the person in the observation room, I'd extend both arms out and point my fingers forward. Then I'd say "nothing yet!". She asked what i was doing. I told her I was waiting for the icicles to start flying from my hands. Then I said "when they do I'm building my own ice city!". She got a good laugh out of that.

Here's a few pics of the vaccination center I was in charged of bringing on line. It went from shell space filled with furniture and left over odds and ends to a finished space in 7 days. We put in 10 stations and associated support areas and administered 7,320 doses in 8- 12 hour days. This required about 40 staff members at a time which we had to pull off their regular work assignments. We actually give out all we had and had to shut it down this week until we get resupplied.

Ours didn't have separate cubicles. About a dozen 6 ft tables down two walls with 2 stations per table. No que at the tables. Exactly the same type 15 minute wait area.

You scheduled a time in the 15 minute blocks that were available. 50 inoculations per block. When you drove up they asked your scheduled time and gave you a numbered colored card. You waited in the car until a parking lot attendent walked by holding up your color/number. You could walk to the entrance or catch a ride on the golf carts that were cruising the parking area. They crossed your name off a list and sent you through.

From the time I pulled in until the time I left was 45 minutes.

If you do a little digging, there is a chit ton of articles coming out daily with people having problems globally with a vaccine that was rushed. mRNA tech is new and not fully tested. I am not a anti-vaxxer, but will not be signing up for a vaccine to protect me against something that is 99.7 % survivable. There is a high risk group of people that need to be concerned, but not healthy peeps or young people. For now, it is voluntary, you are free to choose and I am not going to bash someone that wants to take it.
When they said lock down or else we have a 12%, 7% or 5% mortality, it did not happen. We do not have anywhere near those numbers. Yep, I am a conservative, still free to make a decision for myself. We know there will be some deaths/severe reactions after vaccination. Some will be vaccine related. Some will not.

That may or not be correct. He did die 2 weeks after the vaccine. At the current time we do not know if he actually died from a reaction due to the vaccine. It is still being investigated. Hell, we may never know for sure. What we know at the current time is that "while a doctor in Miami actually died due to a reaction from the vaccine" is not an accurate statement.

From what I've read about it, there's a lower occurrence of severe adverse reactions than there is to the flu vaccine. I'll see if I can find what I read and post the link. The higher "adverse reaction" vs the flu can be attributed to people being observed for 15 minutes after receiving the vaccine. The problem here is, what constitutes and adverse reaction? Right after getting the shot, I had no muscle soreness at the injection site and no noticeable knot where I received the shot like I get with a flu vaccine. I did have some muscle twitching and about 2 hours after receiving, I had some soreness. Still have no knot at the injection site. The person in charge in the observation room said they have had no severe adverse reactions.

I think the problem here too is, if you do a little digging you can find whatever you want to find.
