Facebook, who gives a flying patootie?

FB, I killed my account 4 years ago. Don't miss it. Now FB has killed the Australia link up due to $$ and links to content. How much money does that skinny little geek need to do business?

I have no compassion for that douche nozzle. As to Aussie FB fans? You're are better off. Kind of like withdrawal from a drug....not that I would know. Suck it up buttercup.

I'm thinking you care.
If you were selling it product you felt was being improperly used, might you not remove it from the market?

Give it time, Facebook is slowly dying anyway. The kids don’t care about Facebook, and many older folks are leaving because of censorship and their meddling in the election. In 5 years I predict it’s a shadow of what it was, the second coming of MySpace. I think cyborg Mark is too arrogant to see it coming based on his actions. All it takes with social media is for your audience to find something new.

I gave up FB about 9 months ago and in the departing comments wrote "Eat a bag of dicks Zuckerberg".

My family has asked me to sign up again so we can share pictures and memories (no politics, that's why I left) so I have tried a few times to sign up as a new member. New name, different info, nothing works. All I get is "It has been determined that you do not conform to FB community standards therefore your account is suspended". Oh well.

I dropped somewhere after they went public.

They'd made changes where to "the wall" I would see when I logged in.
Inserted a bunch of depressing links and stories on a regular basis.
It would often sneak them in as "so and so like related x and x to this".
I started removing the so and so's.
Kept dropping people, it kept finding a way to insert it.
Eventually at zero friends on FB it couldn't hide it under so and so liked such and such related x and x to this. It was just straight up a feed of negative articles and links.

Deleted, walked away.
Would not consider it again.
I recommend people drop it.
Pick something that doesn't currate a feed.

Personally I'm using Discord.
No matter what you use, remember, you are the real product, be careful what you put out there.

I have a Facebook account on my computer. NOT on my cell phone. I will never use it on my cell phone, too much tracking.

I actually enjoy seeing family photos and events, and real friends birthdays. I have very few friends on Facebook that I do not know personally as a friend. If someone starts spouting politics more than on rare occasions, I just unfollow them. I can still see them and communicate when I need to, but the barge of political BS stops. And it is a policy that I apply to left or right leaning. I don't need to see other people's stupid posts on politics. It just clogs up the other posts.

The Facebook censorship has become onerous. One of the friends posted a very obvious Photo-chop of that had a political tone. No one smart enough to read would think it is anything but a parody, or a joke. Nothing worse than what Saturday Night live did back when when they were funny. Facebook censored it as inaccurate.

I got out of FB years ago when it kept reminding me of how uninformed my friends, family and acquaintances are.

It was actually scary. I’d rather not know that some of the people I know are walking around in states of delusion. They feeding off each other’s delusions is one thing but the pack mentality made me very uncomfortable.

2.7 billion active users cant be wrong!

Facebook is predominantly an advertising platform...

And you dont need to be on fb, merchants you frequent might even be loading your info from transactions to track offline conversions etc.

I just saw this on Faceplant. It must be true or the fact checkers would have flagged it.

Wife cancelled her account after all the censorship, cancel culture stuff. They don’t make it easy to end your account...got to hunt around to do it. Then it still isn’t totally cancelled until a month later or something like that. Agree with poster that thinks it’s going to fade away.

Those of you who think its going away and reference myspace as an example are living a dream land. At it's peak Myspace had 115 million users. A whopping 4% of Facebooks current active users (1/3 of the planet).

Back when I was on FB a lot of my German friends were leery of having their info out there. It wasn’t very popular at the time (around 10 years ago). Don’t know if that’s changed.

I think FB is stronger than ever and will likely dispose of all pretenses of being a private company. It wouldn’t surprise me at all for it to become a new cabinet level department. Maybe The Department of Truth or something close.

Zuckerberg is right now trying to figure out how to hang on to it (and the money). He’s got a really, really close Chinese advisor so the process is probably well under way.

Quick search on usage in Germany is that roughly 50% of the population is an active FB user.

When it first started in 2005 (I think), I created an account for myself. Only used it a few times and about a year after, I forgot my password and tried too many times. They locked me out and I haven't been back. Don't miss it one bit.

I've been off for about three weeks and don't miss at all. People I thought were normal getting all political and complaining about everything. Funny, the ones that are complaining all seemed to have made poor life decisions early on.

I could have unfriended but realized most of these folks aren't really my real friends anyhow so I just called it over.

You guys at least I learn a lot from. Especially the older folks. Wisdom runs deep here.
