Chicago opens indoor @25% this weekend. Museums open this weekend too.

I'n not sure that many will remain open. I don't think restaurants can survive at 25%.

A lot of places have changed business hours around here. My daughter and I went out to eat the other day, took a little while to find a place open at 12:30 in the afternoon.

Our indoor dining has been open since June I think. We've changed occupancy but haven't completely shut down. I've been trying to do my part and eat out a little more often to help the restaurant owners and employees. Also tipping a good bit better than normal even with bad service.

Is it smart to go out to eat currently?

We go out as much as possible, have been since they were “allowed” to open up. Plenty that didn't open back up again. But we’re all in this together!

How have any eateries stayed in business in these repressive states. Restaurants have been open here in Florida since summer. We go out frequently. No restrictions that I have noticed other than servers usually wearing face diapers. Just got back from a weekend in Louisville KY where everything's closed up and it was like traveling to the old Soviet Union. Currently have 3 neighbors age 60+ with the ChiCom Virus - flu-like symptoms for 3-4 days, big freekin deal Daughter and several of her co-workers also had it - mild cold-like symptoms. 99.9% survival rate and we've shut the country down for this?

I've been going out to eat at least once a month since restaurants reopened in Ohio. They've got tables spaced to maintain distancing so I don't have much concern. I have more concern being in places like WalMart, Meijer, Lowes, Menards than I do anywhere I've gone out to eat.

Where I work, we get daily updates of suspect, confirmed and back to work cases. I talk to the EHS director who monitors Covid cases and reads data from the CDC. We take Covid very seriously: we have 1000 employees and the number of Covid cases is over 100( we keep score) with 3 deaths. The was a big spike after the Thanksgiving holiday. There were more positive cases over the 30 day period than at the beginning of April. The company was really bracing for a big spike after the New Year. Production schedules were adjusted for this spike.
The good news is we aren't seeing it. I can't point to one specific thing (it never is). The positivity rate is starting to decline. I'm personally happy about this. Winter has been mild in Chicago but many things were closed. I was starting to have cabin fever. Things are now starting to open. I look forward to going to a museum and to a restaurant that doesn't have a tent in their parking lot and I need to wear a coat to eat.
I use to eat out 2-3 times a week. I like the dining experience That has permanently changed for me. I was/am no fan of takeout. I hate grocery and retail shopping so buying on line is my new norm.

If you are scared, stay home, and keep the rest of us who aren't safe.

My wife, and I went out last night...every table was full.

Our places are back to a wait list on Friday and Saturday nights. Because people are sick of this crap but they still have tables closed or spaced out. So now it’s a wait because there’s nowhere to sit.

By the way, anyone who says this isn’t political, please explain to me why states of a certain political affiliation are now rushing to reopen. NYC is already asking tourists to come back. But it’s all about keeping people safe....right?

It seems like you inadvertently misrepresented the situation (it's a restricted reopening) - I fixed it for you, continue reading below.

Indoor dining at Michigan restaurants, bars will reopen Feb. 1 at 25% capacity

Lansing — Indoor dining at restaurants and bars in Michigan will resume on Feb. 1, 75 days after it was suspended amid a surge in COVID-19 infections.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced the reopening Friday morning, the latest signal that health officials believe the state is moving past a second wave of the virus that struck in the fall.

Under a new epidemic order that will last from Feb. 1 through Feb. 21, restaurants and bars will be allowed to offer indoor dining at 25% capacity with up to 100 people, and they must close by 10 p.m. each night. Tables must also be six feet apart with no more than six people per table.

Diners will be required again to provide contact tracing information for restaurants.................................
The pressure to reopen has been great and has included death threats, abduction schemes and about four publicly disclosed attempts of armed insurrection at the state capitol.

Quote:
Whitmer's Friday press conference comes as overall COVID-19 infection rates in Michigan continue to drop. Last week, Michigan reported 12-week lows for new cases and the percentage of tests bringing positive results. The positivity rate dropped to 6.7%. It was 14.2% the week of Nov. 29 through Dec. 5.
Lots of good facts in this article, but perception can be a fickle thing.

Quote:
Amid increasing hospitalizations tied to the virus, Whitmer and Robert Gordon, then-director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, first announced their "pause to save lives" on Nov. 15. The order, which was originally planned to last only three weeks beginning Nov. 18, shuttered indoor dining, in-person instruction at high schools and other businesses, like movie theaters.

State officials have since gradually lifted restrictions from the pause, culminating with the reopening of indoor dining on Feb. 1.

Of course... Fraulelin Whittmer has done her job, making sure to create as much misery and economic devastation as possible during the Trump administration so that it would all be laid at his feet and result in his not being reelected. Now that that business is done, she can get back to trying to get people back to slaving away so she can take more of their money. Mission accomplished. Well done.
