Did you know that on New Years eve the last word you should say is "hares" and the first word in the new year is "rabbits"?

This is all I could find...never heard of it before.

"My mother was well versed in all the old sayings and we had to say "hares" as our last word on the last day of the month and then "rabbits" as our first word of the new month. Nowadays it's the more sadistic "Pinch and a punch for the first of the month". It is presumably just to make the change of the month more memorable."

Well it was actually my mother who told me. And being my mother I didn't question the validity of it. But I remember it was an end/start of year thing with our family. Haha, certainly wasn't the first thing we got wrong.

Funny. We play the “Rabbits” game every month.

It is fantastic for a house full of competitive people.

I never knew the origin. Bill? Anyone? Tell me more?

No. Don't know sorry. Being my mom and me being a little boy I just accepted it as a fact.

As for how naugahyde came by its name, it’s worth mentioning that Uniroyal Engineered Products, Inc. was located in Naugatuck, Conn.

There's been a few eastern cottontails coming into the yard to clean up bird seed and whatnot. One as big as the 18lb cat just sat there while the dog walked past in the middle of the day. Used to see 1-4 of them on every block. Last year they mostly disappeared and I thought the hawks and foxes got 'em all. I thought it was squirrels nibbling the green tomatoes but it could be them as well.
