Lightbulb Electric motorcycles

It will be a little while, due to my recent Hawk enduro and Volvo purchases, but one of these might be my next toy!

Here is the SONDERS website - they have a few different models to choose from:

Made in the USA too, I think......

Since I have so much time on my hands, I'm watching TV shows that I hadn't seen, one being the Hawaii Five-o reboot . Detective Chin rides a cool electric bike, but the pump in engine sounds which I find humorous. Which brings up another point, bikes are harder to see thanacar, you generally hear them coming (Loud Pipes Save Lives) so is a silent motorcycle actually a good idea????

3600 today vs 239 back in the early 60's

I remember looking at a Schwinn Paramount priced 259 and thinking the honda was cheaper

So how will the Harley electric motorcycles make the horrible sounding potato potato potato potato and 150 decibels?

It’s my understanding that “loud pipes saves lives” isn’t true.

While there may not be a linear correlation of safety to loudness, that does not mean that there is not a threshold noise level that informs motorists in cars.

I think that's the point that Byron makes. Solid point.

Looking for a bike now, and no electric for me, guess if you already have a couple of motorcycles and want something different. For short commute trips pretty sure I would go with a Renault TWIZY before an electric bike. I think something like Aprilla RS125 or a Yamaha YZF R125 would be fun for short distance bombing around and would burn very little fuel, almost electric.

I don't know how you could confirm that.

I will say that I once got hit by a Prius that was backing out of a parking space. Had I heard it, I probably would have jumped out of the way.

Some bikes are already as quiet as electrics. One day leaving work I heard an unusual sound approaching on the highway. It was a big Honda Goldwing and the sound I was hearing was the tires on the pavement.
I suspect the machine was equipped with a horn, just in case.

Quick caveat......the third post in the thread - that I posted - is not an electric motorbike (obviously).

But I thought it was pertinent to the discussion of options considered of electric models when comparing to similar sized motorized cycles.

I already have quite a few gas powered cycles, so for me choosing an electric unit would be the goal.

As far as loud pipes saving lives. I think it's like a lot of things. Not going to be 100% positive but not going to be 100% negative, either. Somewhere in between.

That said - I would never use that as a criteria when choosing one of these. I actually hate loud noise coming from anything I drive/ride. Whisper quiet is my cup of tea. In other words....stealth mode!

I live on a barrier island beach town and on week day nights it's a great time to ride around. Not a lot of traffic and on a motorcycle it can clear the head. Cruising along on one of these electrics would be a blast!

Load pipes are far better as a warning to pedestrians that seem to want to step in front of you otherwise...

Electric bicycles are the thing around here. But being around $3,000 for a good one you can find an immaculate used BMW F650GS for that..

I did like the Harley LiveWire bikes used in Long Way Up. Problem is you have to be a true believer to lay out that kind of cash for the environment. Starting at $29,799.
