I got #2 in the series (Moderna) yesterday, arm is sore, mild flu like symptoms. . . and my lower back is pretty sore. Apparently a common side effect of the Moderna Vaccine.

My hat is off to the National Guard. Very efficient in administering the vaccine.

"COVID arm"

https://katu.com/news/coronavirus/moderna-vaccine-causing-covid-arm-among-some-patients
FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — "COVID arm" is a new rash-like side effect appearing among some people who've received Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine.

Online it’s being called “COVID arm” and now one Visalia woman is unsure about getting her second dose after experiencing the side effect one week after getting her first dose.

Amelia Brown, who is a former CNA living in Visalia, sent FOX26 pictures of her arm just days after getting her first dose of the vaccine on January 11th.

^^ Yes, the welt appears a few inches below the injection site. It does eventually resolve

I got the first Pfizer shot Tuesday. No side effects except a feeling of listlessness for a couple of days. It was a good excuse to lay around and do nothing. Come to think of it, the symptoms may come back at any time.

Mom was like that, too, but she had the Moderna.

Did you get the placebo? That's what I felt like with my first shot too! SmileWavy

My neighbor across the street works for FEMA, Monday evening his wife knocked on our door with a phone in hand saying her husband wants to talk to me.
Rutro...
He's kind of my "canary in a coal mine"- if I see him out packing gear up I usually ask where he's off to and should I be packing up too?

Tuned out he was at a vaccination site less than 10 minutes away that was only by appointment.
Between getting 6 doses from a 5 dose vial and a few people not showing up they had a few "extra" to get into people's arms before the vaccine expired.
He asked if I'd been vaccinated and if not would I like to?

I jumped at the offer, was in my truck, vaccinated and back home in 20 minutes.

It was the Pfizer version, I had just a slight amount of soreness at the injection site later that night and was a little low on energy the next day. a full day later all good again!

It's good to be nice to your neighbors!!

^^^How does that work for the second half? Will they do the same for you then also?

recycled sixtie 02-05-2021 07:12 AM

The vaccination is not available in Canada yet. I phoned my bil in the UK and was telling him about some folks who are above eighty die from the covid vaccination. He is above eighty. He got the vaccination a week ago. He stopped talking to me. I hung up the phone and called again. I got my sister instead and no mention was made of my bil. Perhaps death is not a good conversation topic when you get older.

When you get the first shot, you get scheduled for the second dose. You're in the system as having received the first dose.

I got my second on Monday. I ran a fever most of Tuesday and slept most of the day or so it seemed. I felt fine Wednesday morning.

I got my 2nd Phizer last Thursday and had, for the first time in my life, an anaphylactic response that is just now starting to die down. I have been to Urgent Care twice, the ER once and my Primary Care once in the last week. I have been covered in hives, swollen hands and feet so bad it was painful to walk and trouble swallowing. Lots of steroids, Benadryl, and epi pens this week but today I'm finally out of bed although still a little out of it from all the drugs in my system. Right now CDC is saying I am 1 in a million for this reaction, so I guess that can be my new "claim to fame."

Daaaaaaaaaaaang! Did they give you any indication why the severe reaction to the second dose and not to the first?

My wife and son got their second dose of the Moderna vaccine today.

Glad you're doing better btw!!

PorscheGAL 02-05-2021 08:06 AM

They don't know why the first didn't effect me but it is not unusual to have an allergy present itself after you are exposed to it many times.

Even after all that, I would still encourage people to get the vaccine. It is too rare a complication to use as an excuse not to.

Again, glad you're doing better! I'm already half way in! Got my first dose a few weeks ago. Get my second on the 15th. Hoping my wife, daughter and son don't have too severe a reaction to the second dose! I'm last in line with about a week between when my daughter gets her second to when I get mine.

I got my first Moderna shot end of January - no soreness in my arm, but I did get an interesting reaction. As a diabetic, when I have the flu or other virus/cold, my blood sugars will become unmanageable. Large spikes followed by lows.

After seeing getting the shot, I experienced the same blood sugar reaction as if I would if I had a virus or flu. So that tells me that my body was building antibodies and fighting a virus that isn't really there.

Second shot in less than 2 weeks! Looking forward to it: any mild flu-like symptoms pales in comparison to what can potentially happen to me if I contract the COVID...

I'm glad my wife doesn't come to this forum.
She's freaked out by just the needle!

cantdrv55 02-05-2021 08:26 AM

The needle you can’t feel at all. It’s the vaccine itself that’ll get you.

Taking my wife out on Valentine's Day for our second dose of the Moderna.

I am anticipated a few days of feeling crappy afterward. I scheduled a few possible Covid days on the calendar.

Cheers
