Anonymity.
I'm perfectly content to be remembered only by my family and closest friends. |
Haa! I'm the only one in this thread with a pic for proof of claim! :D

Have had a few of my projects in national magazines; one possibly global ( Easy Rider) but the '70 LS5/ 454 Chevelle I did a few years ago was one of the few cars that were used as examples of correctness in Dale Macintoshs' Chevelle 'bible' which sold through Amazon as well as most major book stores.

You guys are much more interesting than me. 62 ears ago I won a baby contest, but haven't achieved much since.

I guess fame is subjective. I have a degree of local fame. I just read SamC post #68. my "fame" doesn't belong in the same thread so I deleted it.
Here is SamC's post. 2.8 decades of military service to our Nation. Been, seen & done a couple of lifetimes of operations experience, hard work and long family separations. None of these make me special or different from the other Patriots who serve and have served in war and peace, many of whom are on this forum. I have a few bits of colored ribbon to tell me I did a good job - that and a monthly retirement check are enough. Like other guys & gals, I've lots of war stories and sea stories. Two that I will remember till my end of days... Being part of a team that help to find, fix and completely finish some Al Qaeda *******s that mutilated a little Iraqi girl out on the Syrian border. Second, a decade later and a couple of continents removed, again working with a team to teach, coach, mentor patriots of another country who' are pursuing life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. These acts are known to only a few, I like it that way. It is enough. Thank you sir and Seahawk and the other Patriots that came before and will come after. |
Studying at the kitchen table back in 81. Getting a cup of coffee looking out the back window and elderly neighbor lady is walking across the yard to our back door that enters kitchen. I let her in and she points to her neck. She can't breathe.
I do my best at the Heimlich Maneuver and out popped the chunk of food. She sucked wind for a long minute and then we chatted about the incident. She thanked me and went back home. |

That does remind me... When I was a 20 something and sitting around the sand dunes at the beach one evening i saw a little boy getting swept out in a rip. I took off into the water and got the little guy with seconds to spare. He was out about 200 meters so it was a big swim to get him back in. Thinking now, he's probably all grown up, done uni and got kids running around that wouldn't be there if it wasn't for me. |
^^^ The Heimlich and water rescue are prob two of the most common needed skills.
In boy scouts, we learned water rescue by swimming and boat/canoe. Thankfully, never needed to use them. |

You know he still remembers and his memories surely go to the dark side on occasion. |

I rescued a couple of kids from drowning when I was a lifeguard back in 72-73. When I was working at an Olympic sized public pool I see this body at the 15' bottom. After I pump the water out of him and got him breathing again I found out what happened. His hamstring cramped and he sank like a rock. The kids mom was freaked. No ma'am no hero, just doing my job ma'am |
Like others have said, fame is relative. As for me, I once argued a case before the United States Supreme Court. When I was introduced to the Court, Ruth Bader Ginsberg asked me what law school I graduated from. When I told her the University of Kansas, she looked at me and exclaimed “you’re a Jayhawk!“ Unfortunately, I lost the case. Guess she wasn’t a Jayhawk fan.
Back in 2009 I had a criminal case that gained so much notoriety that I was on both Good Morning America and, after the case was over, a Tokyo news station sent a team to interview me. Apparently the Japanese are fascinated with crime in America. I also discovered the weird Internet world of people that follow gruesome murder cases. |

I was lucky...mine was 1964 and someone else had a camera. :D Cameras were too big to stick in ones pocket. |

"What's your claim to fame." - I don't really have one.
I can fix things that most people don't understand and I like riding my bikes a lot more than regular people. That's it... |
I am known by some as the "mayor" of my small street.
Played at satyricon with my band in 1985. (That may mean something to one or two) Saved a couple of people different times. Love my family too much. Made a few people laugh every now and then. |
Gus, Alex, Ryan, Georgia, Ella, Emily, Charlie, Wyatt, and Finn. Not necessarily in that order.

A few years back, made front page on the Decatur Alabama newspaper, quite a few years back mentioned as an anonymous tourist that failed to save a drowning victim :( in the St. Croix newspaper, and as a young boy a picture in the local paper (maybe when in Florida?) for a math tournament win.
