Motor Trend...best drivers car

March 2021. A quote from the article:

"The first surprise of the day involved the two cars in the 700 horsepower club, the 711 hp Ferrari and the 760 hp Ford. Evans was in the F-8, Walton was in the GT500, and Evans could not shake him. I was about 10 car lengths behind both of them in the (slightly) less powerful 630 hp Lamborghini Huracain Evo, and I couldn't believe what I was witnessing. A Ford hanging on the bumper of a Ferrari? Sacrilegio!"

Not that the GT500 can be considered in the low price field...

I apologize. My bad for posting about cars on a car guy board...

Anybody here want to play pool for small stakes? If so, I could arrange it for you. Do you have a Fargo rating?

You deserve one...all it takes is the ability to write the check.

The performance available for relatively affordable $$ today is genuinely remarkable...even more so on the used market.

I like Mustangs, too, but $90K plus added dealer markup and taxes makes it over $100k. For a Mustang!

I'm a big Mustang fan, and currently DD a 2013. This is the 5th one that I have had, 1973, 1985, 1995, 2004, and 2013. I will most likely get a 2020 GT in a few years, but I can't see the reason for 760 HP, that is just too much for the street.

Both more power than I can handle. Like watching the horse power duals but, I'll stick with vintage.

This is the Mustang. You can probably see the other cars here as well.

I remember when the Cayenne came out, Porsche had an ad that said “do you really need 500 HP to go buy diapers?”

“Have you ever run out of diapers?”

I’d rather have a GT350, much more my style.

Hmm, something tickling my memory here, what is it, oh year. Movies and books about exactly that.

I guess this guy forgot about the GT40 and more modern Ford GT, and then that movie from a year ago "Ford vs Ferrari."

Better buy yours now if you want to be top dog at the cars and coffee.
Once Chevy starts to sell muscled-up C8's the idea of a Mustang winning Motor Trend shootouts will be a distant memory.

I remember just a couple of years ago, no wait that was 12 years ago......

One of the guys used to show up at our autocross with an ground pounding Mustang that had a custom built programmed monster engine, trick suspension and ever a independent rear suspension! He was indeed very fast on track. He loved to tell everyone one how he had paid lots to get the car all customized and get the HP up to just under 600 HP. At the time that was a huge number. Now it is not even in the range of box stock from the showroom floor.

Way way back in the olden days of 1984 all the magazines tested the all new 911 Carrera and proclaimed it the fastest new car sold in North America. It had the fastest 0 to 60, 1/4 mile and top speed of any other car for sale in the USA. With a mighty 200 HP. Of course in 1985 the 911 Turbo came back to the USA and set a new benchmark.

Now compare that to the pitiful excuse of a car the Corvette or Mustang was in the mid 1980s. When is the last time you saw a mid 1980s Mustang or Corvette anywhere, even at a car show?

I occasionally run into an 80s mustang or corvette (usually seems to be a driver), but yes, very rare.
