				California Weather Issues

I read a lot about guys that live in snow country and putting on snow tires, scraping windshields, plugging in heaters so the engine block doesn't crack.

Well, these guys have no idea what it's like living here out west! It is a beautiful day today and I wore a short sleeve shirt to work. While driving, the news says it's gonna rain this afternoon. I didn't bring a jacket or umbrella - now what am I supposed to do?? |

I think the fires have been put out at this point. Of course new ones could always start up. I think the biggest help would be new state management.

Let's not go there. That not what we are taking about. A little rain is a good thing. A lot of rain is never a good thing. Unless the state is burning.

We were out camping this summer in the lower Sierras. Normally, we have the fire pit going at night because the kids like it and it a bit cold after sun down. This year, no fire at all. Got talking with the ranger and he tell us that because of Covid, and closed border, the Mexican young men can't come up to work the forest and prep for fire season, so no fires period. Yep, state management is all screwed up.

No offense taken. There is nothing we can do about it. We have to learn to live with it.

Fresh snow is beautiful. Snow skiing is fun. Fresh green of Spring. Get the mountain bike out. Boat in a slip at the marina all Summer. Brilliant dazzling Fall colors. Grab the backpack and hit the wilderness. Life is good. I don't mind driving on snow & ice. The techniques required are the same as the race track. Both are right on the edge of traction. 20 mph on ice, 120 mph on the track. Driving right at the limit is fun. |

We have beautiful summers here...pefect day temps and cool evenings. But by the end of Oct...I'm ready for the cooler days and nights. Winter can be extreme..but that's what makes spring so nice.

That's your fault for being there. If you aren't a polar bear, arctic fox, sea lion or woolly mammoth, then you should move from anywhere that gets that cold.

![]() I grew up in California and only lived in fear of fires, which are like hurricanes in terms of predicted paths, prevention, breathless reporting, etc. Three season in Maryland are incredible. I love driving in snowy weather and the transitions between seasons is great. I will find a place to go in the summer, however: High humidity is natures way of putting a stick in my eye.
