I was told that sitting on the plane is safe, because everyone is facing forward.
Yeah right.

The likely spread of airborn diseases increases the longer you are in close contact with carriers. Minimizing the amount of time carriers are packed together minimizes the chances of the spread of disease. Makes sense to me.
"You're going to be packed together in an airplane for 3 hours so you may as well be packed together in the airport for 2 hours," makes no sense to me.

Been flying back and forth OH - CA twice monthly and other spots in between for past year. I'm a hell of a lot more confident in the cleanliness of a Delta flight than I am a damn near anywhere else.

Hmmm, maybe it you are in the first seat or last. If you are in the last seat you might assume all the breath goes forward, if you are in the first you might assume the breath hits the mask and vents out the sides and goes backward?

Either way it makes no sense to me.

I wonder what the rate/percentage of contraction is amongst a flight crew?

Planes installed hospital grade filtration systems. Airports, not so much.

My son had 4 cases in his class. 2 kids (twins) brought it back from vacation in Arizona, all 4 kids sat in the front row. The art teacher got it too. The other 2 kids (not the twins) gave it to their siblings. Entire school closed for 2 weeks and kids legally required to quarantine even though negative. My son missed 6 days old ski race training which is a big deal when you consider how many days of intensive training young athletes get per season.

1 kid in the front row did not get it.

but filtration does no good if there is direct contact twixt the carrier and the carriee yes? Please assure me that I'm wrong because my Beethoven bust is starting to respond to my conversations with it.

Yes and the air flow to the filters is controlled. I think the air flow is downward, you are not breathing air coming directly from people more than a couple of rows from you.

Personal responsibility and risk assessment.

I would find that high risk, and not do it.

I flew in December. Wore a 95 mask, face shield, and the flight was half full. My scheduled return flight was near full, on a Sunday, so I changed it.

I get second shot next week, so I may fly again.

Probability ain't safe.

Here is a video that will answer some of why an airplane COULD be safer than an airport.

My last 2 flights (late December and early January) were as different as night and day. The airlines have different protocols. My flight to DC was AA, every seat was full. My return flight was Delta, they spaced people out so that no one was sitting next to anyone. I preferred the Delta flight.

Thanks Shaun,

I appreciate the back up. It truly was posted as a joke, didn't expect anyone to really try and answer the question. But, I am open to hear how the plane makes sense.

This commercial is pretty cool. I wish I knew how to post a video as a video and not just a link:
