Why is the TV show Trailer Park Boys ‘ok’?

In today’s outrage society, where monuments to our past are torn down and destroyed, the Confederate flag is outlawed in some places, why is The Trailer Park Boys ok?

For those who don’t know the show, it is a parody of White Trash trailer park degenerates set in Sackville, Nova Scotia, Canada. What if the cast were black or SE Asian or First Nations people? Would it still be funny?

Why is a mockumentary that shows some races in a dim light OK?

I live in Nova Scotia and never watched the show. I did see one of the actors performing at a conference ten years ago but wondered how anyone could find his act (which borrowed heavily from the show, I was told) the least bit funny.
Maybe because I grew up on a small farm in a rural setting and didn't need to see any more stupid people living in poverty.

Maybe a lot of people feel better if they can laugh at someone else.

^^^similar. Never seen it. Rural Oregon goes redneck pretty fast. I have seen lots of this in person and it just isn't funny to me.

But to address your question directly, I would say since white people have been putting down everybody else, it might be considered cathartic to poke fun at ourselves.

That is what you get from Canadian productions like Trailer ParK Boys. It is the answer to the UK's Masterpiece Theatre and Brideshead Revisited. Maybe equivalent to Coronation Street. I cannot watch Trailer Park or Coronation Street. I agree the latter are pretty bad but there must be a demand for it. The days of husband and wife sitting next to each other watching one tv with one person controlling the tv are over. Multiple tv's and channels are the answer. Perhaps an extra wife Mormon style to make your own soap opera

Ive seen too many of those people in real life (US and Canada) to find it amusing. Kinda surprised they left out lots of domestic violence and meth.

Picking on white people is OK. Picking on other people of whatever the PC term is now is not.

BET is an accepted network, Cracker TV probably won't fly. 2045 and white people will be an official minority in the US.

The academic reason you seek is that it isn't ok to mock the oppressed.
It is only ok to mock the oppressor.

If you are white, you belong to a race that no matter what you do it means you are an oppressor.
It is not ok to make fun of some one that isn't white because anyone that isn't white is oppressed by the existance of those that are white.
It is ok to make fun of someone that is white becaues existing as a white person causes oppression to those that are not white.

There is a consistant logic behind it.
I hope it answers your question.

The only solution that will work when this logic is applied will be to end white people.

They had a show like that back in the 70s: Good Times. But I doubt you could get away with it today.

Recently received Smithsonian magazine. not sure why as i didn't order it. anyways i saw the mag and thought 'oh man this will be great! lots of articles on our history, science and of course the wonderful museums in DC'.

Couple pages of reading and i was done. One giant re-education pile of hate.

Because television is optional. Don't like it? Don't watch.

You can find hate speech, holocaust deniers, racists, religious zealots, whatever you want on TV and in movies. You aren't forced to watch.

I find the show funny, but I don't think that they represent the average east coaster in any way shape or form.

well they couldn't do such a show without black people acting it.
So it really would depend on the actors willingness to do it. no?

Unless you it was white people and a lot of shoe polish , but now we're getting in the really silly and rude areas.

I enjoy watching Law and Order. Currently running all the time on WE network. The commercials for the black focused shows on that channel-----well i'm not sure how anyone could take those shows as anything short of mocking blacks with money. And the stupidity on those shows isn't an act!
