Chinese product failure rate
Seems to be the crap we buy, all we can buy as everything is made over there is failing out the box. My replacement Streamlight Lithium batteries just arrived from Amazon.
Dead on arrival and no ability to take a charge, plug in voltage gauge as the Mercedes has no meter or gauge. Reads 17volts at idle and falls to 6 volts at 2,000 rpms. Autozone test light. Looked to be a fail but I put the alligator clip on + and the needle on - and it worked.... Shoddy workmanship I can handle. Crap that flat doesn't work pisses me off. ![]()

China bashing is fun. And no country deserves it more. But crooks are everywhere, and crappy quality products are not new. What is different about this era is the good quality stuff is really hard to find if it is available at all.
It is pretty much impossible to find many products that are not made in China at any price. Few people are willing to pay double for a top quality gizmo when China can package, and ship it for half the price. There was a local tool store that was family owned and in business for many years. They had three levels of tools, cheap junky made in India or China level tools, better mid level Craftsman level tools for home mechanics, or pro grade top quality stuff. It was right down the street from a favorite restaurant of mine. I use to go eat lunch and browse the store and always found some tool I just had to have. Harbor Freight put them out of business, with all Chinese made stuff. I mourned the passing of that store.

Pretty much the same experience here. A Costco opened up a couple years ago and is always busy. Hardly anything in there is made in the USA.

I don't buy much these days, apart from food and gas, but when I do, the first thing I look for is the country of origin label.
I'll buy used before I buy crap made in China. I buy nothing from Amazon, Costco, Sam's, Ebay and the like. |

Which is odd from a consumer point of view.
Today, we can buy super premium items everywhere. Coffee, wine, beer, chocolate, and guitars come to mind. But other less emotionally driven items have gone to crap. Find a great shoe lately? Nope. A suit? Luggage? Furniture? All driven to the bottom. Strange what we actually value and what we don't. |

I hate the counterfeit stuff coming from China. Stuff looks like it should. Never works like it should. They are so good at counterfeitting its unreal. Its hard to know if the brand name item you buy is real or not.

My biggest gripe with counterfeit parts is auto parts, which is why everything I buy comes from a authorized dealer. Ssame with bearings and seals and similar stuff. I go to the bearing house, hold the new part in my hands and inspect it before a sale is made.
Same thing with luxury goods. I wouldn't buy something from Rolex, LV, Hermes or whomever that didn't come from one of their stores. I'm now in a phase of my life where I've bought all the durable goods and toys I'll ever want and am now downsizing and offloading most of it. You wake up one day and decide you don't need it all and don't want it all anyway. I can live without the latest computer or TV just fine. |

I'd be happy if the ChiComms could manufacture an accurate phillips head screw. I've tried all different types/sizes of phillips bits and, no matter, they all seem to strip. Yeah, a big part is the crap metal, but there's something off on the size as well.

I have found that buying better screwdrivers helps. I like Vessel, from Japan.

China does make a lot of crap, and a lot of counterfeit stuff. For that they should be called out and held accountable. But at the end of the day it's us in the US and other developed nations who are just as at fault. China is just as capable of making anything to any quality standard that is required. Many high quality, high tech components and end items are made there. It's just we, as a society, are always looking for something cheaper. Chinese companies are happy to make anything at any price point. It's not their fault that we choose the lowest price point 90% of the time, so they flood the market with parts/components/assemblies/end items that are crap. IF we insisted on quality 'stuff' they'd make it, but it would be much closer to the price of parts made here so we're not interested.

Fail rates are often written into the contract.
Our cultural mindset is to do the best, exceed expectations. Their cultural mindset, it says 5% can be duds, so make sure we ship 5% as duds. The quality will be based first and foremost on what is asked. My culture enjoys doing better than is asked. It can take some adjustment. |

Haven’t bought anything from HF in more than a year.
I’ll buy used tools over new. If new, country of origin is the first thing I check. Someone mentioned Phillips, yup already tossed the HF crap and gotten some quality used Craftsman. |

I have wondered how America can support and improve our manufacturing sector. Losing the manufacturing industry means eventual economic mediocrity at the very least. America is addicted to cheap Chinese products while in fact buying American can help America and also potentially save you money. Personally, I have grown steadily less fond of cheap products throughout my lifetime. The quality stuff I have bought is sill in service and performing excellently. In the long run, this has saved me money and aggravation.

China looks at us like the goose with golden eggs. China will continue to flood us with cheap junk until we’re exhausted.
At the point when China decides our maintenance is too costly, it will kill the American dollar. Running up trillions in debt while printing billions per month means we have a long way to go before the cash pipeline from us to China dries up. We’ve been infiltrated. When DJT talks about China eating our lunch it is not hyperbole. I do believe China has been the unseen hand steering us toward oblivion on China’s timeline. As such, I believe the irrational exuberance in hating DJT is like everything else: Made In China. |

How's that high end German Made BMW working our for ya or Benz for that matter? My I phone is working fine so its my computer screen. Its our fault that we continue to buy them so they provide it, just like the illegal drugs coming from the south of the border. I hate cheap siht.
I had a potential client said to me, about cheap Chinese built cabinets and service has gone out the door in America. I said to her, we make cabinets here in LA using certified materials from the Pacific Northwest. Every single piece of plywood has a stamp on it. After I gave her a rough price, she was floored calling me a thief for ripping her off because she's a woman. My reply was, you can breath that poison off gas from their material if you choose, your choice. She threw me out the door. Thank goodness for that. many People will complain all day, but are not willing to pay for quality. Human nature, I suppose? Go ride in that high speed train they build over there come back and tell me about their quality. |
