high mileage 2002 lexus sc 430
a friend of mine is looking at a brillant red 2002 lexus sc 430. cosmetically the car shows extremely well...but it is a high mileage car at 163000 miles. it has excellent lexus maintainance records up until 131000 miles which was in 2013. but no records for the past 7 years and the approximate mileage driven of 30000 miles. interested in thoughts from the forum or experiences of ownership. the car does have a clean carfx and spent all its years in the nashville area and has had three owners. thanks for any comments or opinions.

Sorry no model specific info but a Toyota product with 163k is better than many manufacturers with 63k! Not that high really.

I would agree. Probably one of the most bulletproof marks on the planet. Don’t know much about that specific model but if the price is right...a pretty safe bet.

We have a 2004 Lexus RX 330. 135k on it. Engine runs like a top. Only $$$ issues we have encountered were related to air suspension. Those system don't age well, and are very expensive to fix. I simply removed the system and converted it to standard suspension.

Good for ever, keep the service up I saw one over 500 k guy had the seats reupholstered for the second time. My es that I gave to my daughter has over 300 runs like new. Back in the early 2000s Lexus had something to prove they succeeded
Happy Motoring

That engine will do an easy 300K w/o even burning oil. Check the suspension, often be time to replace struts at the current mileage.

Maybe the current owner has the service records or know where it was done since 131,000 miles. A lot of shops don't report to Carfax. I'd be a little concerned if the oil was changed and would have a PPI done. Chances are it'll uncover something worth negotiating over. Check carefully for evidence of body work as well.

Any service performed at a Lexus dealership can be found here: https://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/
As to the mileage being 163K? If this thing has been properly maintained it's probably not even halfway used up yet. _

I traded a 2002 ls430 with 207,000 miles. Wife wanted a newer model with more geezer safer features. Otherwise the ls drove like a new car. 163k is still in the break in schedule. Replaced it with a leftover 2020 ls500. Amazing car.

Check to see if the timing belt was done. I think the interval was 10 years/100k.

I don't about in the US but in Europe the SC430 is not considered a sportscar: it simply won't go round corners well.enough.

I know Lexus is a great brand, but the mention of the SC430 brought back memories of a Top Gear episode.
