The Mandalorian

Wow... Just wow. Is anyone else watching this? (dumb question I know)

Absolutely brilliant old school Star Wars! What more could you want? And the character Mando is very likeable.

(I never liked Bobo Fett but he wasn't actually a Mandalorian. He adopted their armour and weapons only.)

Free year if you have Verizon and unlimited data plan. Not bad but disappointed that there were only only two episodes. Also the amount of films available to screen is extremely limited.

It IS cheap but the movies are juvenile except for the fact that all the Star Wars movies are there....

A Mandalorian is just a East European Mandolin.

Looks like a mashup of Star Wars and a Clint Eastwood film.

I'll make my one margarita statement and move on.

Star wars has gotten too big for itself.

These offshoots (Rogue one, Solo, and now- Mandalorian), as cliche and merchandised as they are, open new space to creatively write new stories in the original context with no preconceived expectations that inevitably will fall short in some eyes.

I look forward to it (when it shows up in my netflix - or whatever- feed in the future.)

That is all.

edit: oh yeah.- https://youtu.be/bDgOwX72fLI

IMO, the offshoots of the 90's and early 2000's were great, and are a major reason I liked Star Wars.

Books, games, comics, etc...

The lure of massive merchandising income has had Star Wars much bigger than the movies for a very long time. This isn't recent.

For me, I've had a tough case in that Disney threw out all the old offshoots. So what I knew as "Star Wars" isn't. It doesn't go well in my mind at all to have multiple stories or different reasons for the same events.

Lightsaber color, used to be a choice of crystal that the lightsaber builder used.

Now it is an emotional tie to the user of the lightsaber.

^Totally agree.

I wish disney had a geek squad to stay true to those offshoots.

At the same time, even Lucas got scathed for his interpretation of the prequels.

(I'm an outlier- I actually thought Star wars one (episode I) and (episode III) had their strongpoints.)

When it comes to the Disney films, I have rewatched Rogue one and Solo several times for the heck of it. I have even rewatched parts of episode VIII several times, but, can't really sit though an entire showing without barfing a bit.

I guess I will plop down $5 this december to watch IX in a local rundown theater in staunton, va., which sells beer. (not because they sell beer- or that it's star wars)- but because it's a local mom and pop setup which is nostalgically so far removed from what theaters have become, it's worth the $5 just to support the local business owner.

Most of the Star Wars movies that Disney has released so far have been crap.

But...

The Mandalorian is fantastic!!!!

All you guys who only like the original trilogy (me included) will like it. Plus it has a very nice Western/lone gunslinger vibe.

The Mandalore world is covered by the animated 3D Clone Wars series.

The Mandalorian definitely has a "Dirty Harry" feel to it. I like it, and I am curious how (or if) it will tie into the new movies/new stories. I'll watch EP 2 tonight.
