Grundy Insurance quote and inconsistent information

I recently applied for a Grundy collector policy and they did have a checkbox in the application indicating I planned to use my vehicle occasionally to drive to-and-from work. The policy documents do state "My vehicle will not be used frequently for regular driving such as driving to and from work..." however I called to confirm that I wouldn't have an issue with my car not being in a covered garage while in the office and was told that my car would not be covered for any form of commuting to the office.

I'm a bit confused why they include a checkbox for my original quote allowing me to commute and then tell me conflicting information on the phone. Needless to say, I do not plan to obtain a policy with them.

Are there any insurance companies that offer reasonable collector car insurance that do allow driving that isn't just pleasure or car show driving? Or am I stuck paying $1100/year for my normal policy for a car I drive on average 1-2 times per week?

I have my '88 911 through Leland West, I think it's about $600 for one year. If I remember correctly I think the mileage cap is 5,000 and they allow occasional commuting to work. It's an agreed value policy, and they were ok with my heavily modified car. They also give PCA discounts.

Beware the normal policy. I talked to Geico about insuring mine along with our regular cars, they were very upfront that due to the age they would likely not value the car at its true collector value. They take MSRP and depreciate each year, so in theory an older car is worth very little to them. Pretty bad when an insurance company recommends that you take your business elsewhere, but they recommended that I insure it with a collector car policy.

There are a bunch of them. Haggerty comes to mind. Lots of others. Typically you need to have another primary vehicle. You can usually drive your special interest car as desired - including a commute - but some companies want this to be for maintenance or recreation purposes.

Grundy may be fine. The policy is the contract. You may have spoken to some ill informed staff person. It happens often.

Doe the policy define "Frequently?" If not. A better question to your agent (in writing) is what does this mean? You already have coverage if in-frequent, per the contract. The issue is what is frequently mean?

Good luck.

I do have an agreed upon value with my standard policy but the fact that I pay as much for my Jeep, which is driven 6 out of 7 days or more, just seems absurd to me. I'm going to get a quote from Leland West now.

I looked into Haggerty and they seemed to have even more written restrictions. No, I found no concrete definition of "frequently" which was one of the reasons I called. I'm going to shop around a bit more as that left a bad taste in my mouth.

I just got a quote from Leland West of $575 which wasn't as nice as the $219 from Grundy but I'm hoping the policy will be more clear about the frequency of commuting.

I recently switched all of my cars over to Westfield through an independent agent who's also a PCA guy. My 968 and old Audi S4 are written as agreed value policies, both cars cost me just $230/year (+ our stupid MI statutory assessment of $180 each). The only usage restrictions are that I am not to drive them more than 120 days per year. I also need to have another vehicle as a daily use, which is my truck. The cost on the truck was a bit more than what I was paying through Lib. Mutual, but overall, I'm much better off.

I use Condon Skelley for my 69 Chevy truck 220/year full coverage and it is insured for an agreed-upon value of 18,000. The only requirements are that it is kept in a secured garage and is used less than 5K per year, and is registerd as a "Classic"

I use American National. I have my house & three cars insured with them. We have a stated value amount on the car. I had to get an appraisal. My 911 is insured as a specialty car and overall driving is supposed to be under 5,000 miles a year. If I go on a long vacation trip I just notify them and they don't really care how far I drive in two weeks. I am allowed to drive it to work on occasion, and if my daily driver is in the shop for repairs.

My 911 insurance cost $200 per year for full coverage. Back in 2007 a suicidal deer attacked me just outside of San Luis Obispo CA. The insurance company did not blink. They let me take it to the local Porsche specialist and he fixed it properly. Single stage paint and it was right back to the way it was before the dang deer. I was out the cost of the deductible. While it was in the paint shop I paid him extra to repaint the door mounter mirrors. They had several rock chips and that was fixed. The paint still looks great after 5 years.

I can can testify that driving through LA traffic at 5:00 PM with a broken windshield is no fun at all. In fact is sucked big time.

I know Hagerty allows "occasional" drives to work, I even got it in writing once... but that's the "once or twice a month to show off the car to your buddies" kinda drive to work... I don't think you fall under "occasional" at a regular twice a week, per their definition.

Given how you use the car, you are probably better off with a regular insurance that will cut you a break on the lower mileage you need. Agreed value should cover you financially, too...

Classic policies are cheap just because you don't use the car as a regular appliance. Even one or twice a week is definitely not occasional, I'm not passing judgemetn on that, i'm just saying don't bother with the big classic ins. names because even if you squeak through, they most likely they will deny coverage if something happens on your way to work. Not worth the risk.

This is kind of what I figured however I will talk to Leland West. I understand the frequency of driving is a sticking point however as a married homeowner with no accidents or moving violation in 17 years of driving, I get annoyed that I'm paying nearly $100/month for a garage-parked car that sees 4000 miles in a high mileage year.

Yikes. That is expensive. $1,200 per year is pricy. Find an American National agent. Ask about the "Chrome" policy. You might have to wait one more year to get that. I think they want a car that is 25 years old. The agent will know. I like my $200 per year rate.

I use American Collectors. Less than 300/yr. They didn't blink at paying for my deer hit in July, around 3k in damage.

I tried Leland West and they called me and asked if I ever drove the car to run errands and I said "yes, if it's a nice day I'll take a ride and run errands" and they told me they won't cover it.

I just applied with American Collectors and they don't appear to have any nonsense restrictions other than putting the car in a garage and 5000 miles which is what I'm looking for.

Thanks for all of your help in this frustrating process.
