You guys superstitious about car colors?

Even a little bit "stitious"?

Growing up, my dad always had slate grey or white cars. Slate grey beetles, Slate grey Volvo 133, Slate grey 911, White volvo 145. Other than the occasional flat tire, they always worked.

Enter 1981, and the Beautiful BLUE volvo 265 for my mother. (something like this picture- we had round headlights)

I was 11, and my dad was in his prime. We tested BMW's, Mercedes, Audi's, and Volvos. I was a fan for the Volvo for it's electric windows. The AC blew ice cold. T'was a dream boat.

"The windows are something called a gimmick" dad muttered, however, the wagon was the plushest of the rides. It had overdrive. It just felt right. The others had a germanic cold sterile feeling. The volvo was home.

Mom loved it. So did I. Two out of three won out against my dad's good judgment, although his hesitation was evident.

Then, idyllic life crumbled. Best I recall, the Six cylinder engine blew two or three heads. My mother hit everything known to man in it. This car became a thorn in the side and a drain on their marriage.

Dad should've bought the Overlook Hotel. He'd have done better. I remember him changing the head, for the 3rd or 4rth time, after their divorce, digging under the hood of a truly toxic car he couldn't part with.

In the end, he parted with it for $500. In the end, I love that shade of Blue, especially on P-cars, but hell if I will ever own a Blue volvo wagon.

To this day, I own white cars. Knock on wood.
I saw a newer Blue wagon for sale today . Deep down wanted it, but passed it by.

Superstitious? That car ruined our lives!!!!!
Yup.

I had a blue 1977 Scorpion that seemed invisible to others on the road. People would change lanes right into me, then my dad crashed it. I'm glad he crashed it, since I took his 1971 Alfa spider to within an inch of its life. I felt really bad about that, then my brother did the same thing. No superstitious about blue at all, however.

^That's striking! Never seen that before. (It's not a volvo wagon, so that breaks the curse for me )

It's like fiat x1/9 but sooooo much cooler!

Great story. I’m sorry about your family. Funny how the best things can go south.

It was a beautiful car. That one wasn't mine, but it is identical, including the windows in the flying buttresses. It had a Fiat 124 motor in it- my understanding is it was going to become the Fiat X1/20, the big brother to the X1/9, then Lancia needed something to build so it was given to them. It was really smooth, not very powerful, and rode really nicely. The seats were vinyl and the AC was weak, so it was easy to get hot in it. It was a fun car!

Not really but you want a bright color for a small, low slung car

That was my second question, is it on a fiat x1 type chassis?

I had a friend once, with a fiat x1/9. It broke, so another friend came along with his chevy chevelle and we chained the fiat to the back, towing it down the road with a long dangling chain.

To be a clown, and since the chain had slack, the x-1 guy hit the brakes, which immediately pulled the chain taugh, ripping the front bumper off, and pulling the two fender arches together popping up the hood due to lack of room

Whoops!

Another color I am cautious about is green.

My first 912 was the "irish green"

I think greens are the some of the most beautiful colors in car world, but, especially for small sports cars, are too camouflaged against rural backdrops in today's environment.

No idea what chassis it was on. Found this, but I don't think it mentions the chassis origin:

In the UK green cars are considered unlucky and therefore harder to sell on.
I had a sky blue car once, that a lot of people found difficult to see; I was forever taking avoiding action.

After owning approximately 50+ cars over the years, I just can't bring myself to own a red car, I appreciate them from afar, but have never bought one other than for a parts car.

It also seems that anytime I had an accident, or incident, it has been in a orange variant colored car, so I have eliminated that as a possibility.

Knock on wood, we have had good luck with white, and green.

No correlation for me between colour and accidents, maintenance requirements or tickets.
I have put a blue car on its roof, been ticketed in cars that were beige and white, the wife was had two accidents in a red car and we had a grey truck set on fire in a garage when changing the fuel pump went horribly wrong.
I do have a preference for blue, but not so much as to over ride a particular model or options.

Best

Not a bit. Years ago, I heard that red was more expensive for insurance, so I avoided them for that. I eventually heard that either it had been a myth or things had changed. For a while I had a bright red turbo miata. It was a great looking little car. I don't think I ever actually got a ticket in it. I was pulled over a couple of times, but just got warnings.
Tobra has the same car, but in gray. The gray turbo miatas are thought to be cursed. The theory is that they are so small and low slung in a world of taller and taller vehicles that they are hit more often because the gray almost acts as a camouflage making them blend in with the road surface.

I've had blue, green, red, black, silver, gray, brown and copper cars. I don't think I've had a yellow car or orange or purple, but I'd be willing to have any of those. Actually, I'd be happy to have one of the old pale yellow GM cars from the '60s and early 70s. I'd also like to have an orange Porsche.

My 930 is that shade of blue under all the black paint (actually most of the black since some just peeled off reminding of the blue.) I didn't want to repaint the car until I had time to completely strip it down and paint it right but looks like I'll need to get it painted pretty soon.

I've always been in favor of silver cars since I'm a habitual speeder and relish that extra stealthy ability so evade tickets. Now that I'm older and drive a little more reasonable, I think safety is more important so I'm thinking of a brighter color. Lilac was an available 930 color in 1979, maybe... maybe not.

Nope, I am not even slightly superstitious about anything.

I bought my 914 on a Friday the 13th, and I ordered in Olympia Blue.

I worked with a guy that was superstitious about everything. I broke a mirror, spilled salt, walked under a ladder and I brushed a broom across my feet, and I did all of that and other thinks on the Friday the 13th.

Silver on a 930 is a great look, but then, is there a color that doesn't look great on a 930?
