I tried a 9 volt. It actually works!!
OK, I'm an idiot.
It works, but it's not looking real promising. It hunts for a steady resistance before announcing what it is, which takes forever if it ever does settle down and find one. I need it for continuity more than actual resistance and it just hunts for the exact resistance. I don't really need to know the difference between .01 and .02 ohms. I'll try it on a voltage tomorrow. It does have a 20 volt scale which might work on a 6 volt system. That would be useful.

You'll get used to that hunting. It's just not settled down. They almost all do that.

If you're mostly just looking for an audible indication of continuity, then wouldn't that be the best setting? If you've got continuity, then it beeps. If you don't have continuity, then no sound. Every multimeter that I've ever had included that feature. Then if you need actual resistance, then you go to one of the other settings.

That's a lot of functionality for $28.

Could be. It is silent until shorted, then emits a screeching sound. It could be just what I need.

You guys rock. The meter came without a manual or any instructions. But PPOT is better than an instruction manual!

Yep, that's what that setting is for, audible continuity testing.

The diode symbol threw me. I'm not an electronics guy.

I think the voice button is second from left

https://www.ebay.com/itm/NKTECH-NK-51F-Voice-Value-True-RMS-Portable-Digital-Multimeter-Multi-Test-Tooler-/142543186675

And it takes a 9v/6F22 battery.

I would love a multimeter I can yell at
