voice mail

Do you use it ? On my cell phone, it is a rare occasion when I go through it and empty messages, it has most likely been full for 10 years or more . If I do empty it, it is full again within a day or 2, and the cycle repeats .
We do check messages daily on the shop phone answering machine .
I have noticed that barely anyone else checks their voice mail. When I call, their vm is either full, not set up, or they just see the caller id, and call back, never having listened to my message .
I still think text is the best thing since sliced bread

I agree Fred that texting is very convenient. Voicemail is usually some kind of garbage. The landline particularly the voicemail says they are going to take me to court re tax infractions, call back to prevent legal proceedings nonsense etc etc.

Call display is excellent though. Most calls I don't respond to.

I rely on voice mail to screen the crap from real calls. It is rare for the robocallers to leave a message. I get 4 to 6 calls from some random city, and I just ignore them. On occasion. it is a real call, they leave a message and I call back promptly.

If I call a business, and their message box is full, I move on to another business for my needs. A full inbox is like telling me you don't want my business because you are busy with other clients, or the business is so poorly run too many people are complaining. It is a big red flag for me.

And my voice mail identifies my business, and that I will call back. I just wish I could get AT&T to skip the instructions. If someone in 2021 can't figure out how to leave a message, I don't want anything to do with them.

Like Glen, I use it to screen junk calls. If not on my contact list, it goes to voicemail.

15-20 Years ago, I used to leave myself voice messages on my office line. For some reason, while driving my mind clears, and I think of things I want/need to do. Before notes, organizers and text messages, that was one of my tools.

I have a contractor that would send me invoices via text at 5-6 am. Had to break him of that habit, but I still have clients that text all times of the day and night, including weekends. I tend to wait until business hours to reply, unless it is a rare emergency.

I actually preferred ordering materials by fax. Less errors, and a hardcopy acknowledgement. Quicker and easier to pull standard form out of the file, than cut and paste.

We do 99.9% of our business on the phone, and via email. We have many clients that we have dealt with for decades, and never met in person.

The only time I use the fax function on my printer-scanner-coppier-fax is dealing with the IRS, or my bank.

Same here with regards to fax. We no longer do any business by fax, haven't in years, but I preferred it for many reasons.

One that drew attention, when I had issues with a supplier's salesperson, was to write on the coverpage "To anyone at this company that wishes to keep this account, the following needs to be addressed immediately:......"

I get very, very few VM these days. It's usually recruiters. The robo/spam/junk call folks never leave a VM.

Maybe I don't have enough friends and acquaintances. (no, I don't think that's it)

I leave messages and no one listens to them. They just call me back from call display.

My land line has an old fashioned answering machine. The scammers NEVER leave a message.

My “beef” with voicemail is all the steps and keys you need to press on the phone and then hold it to your ear to listen.

Sometimes older ways are better, walk in the house see the blinking light on the cassette tape answering machine, push the button, go about putting away whatever you might of brought home, hang up your coat etc. while listening to the message.

Yes, I have VM set up on both landline and cell.

I never answer the phone unless I know who's calling via Caller ID, so if you want a call back, you need to leave a message.

I use email mostly just to avoid the above circle jerk.

I also have a Magic Jack on my landline with a feature that blocks solicitor calls.

I use it as a filter. If you call and don’t leave a voicemail I assume you’re a scammer. I check my voicemail a couple of times a day.

My beef with VM’s is a caller who is a speed talker and says their message so quick, I can’t get the name or number without listening multiple times. If that happens, I delete it and move on.

Edit: I always make sure to say my name, company name, and phone number twice, so they get the message.
