Not all hammers are created equal. My boss had a habit of bending over nails for the longest time. Especially small finish nails. I used his hammer one day and i was bending them left and right. The head was too smooth and convex so the nails slipped out quite easily. Then he bought a new hammer

I am not sure if all are flat, but the one I used to have, IR I think, had a magnetic tip, so full on easy one handed operation. Used to be able to just dip it in the nail box and come up with a nail set ready to go.
