Parking Ticket
Bottom Line: I got a parking ticket last night in Point Pleasant, NJ. My car has Connecticut plates. However, the ticket as written has my proper plate number but it has the state listed as NJ. Should I be concerned about not paying the fine listed on this ticket?
The ticket is handwritten and there is no mention of the VIN. |

How much is it? You may have basis for challenge but is it worth a trip to court?

Interesting.
"Your mission Paul, should you decide to accept it" ... Is your VIN number on the ticket? Any late fees mentioned on the ticket? Do they photograph plates in NJ for tickets, moving or parking? They do in parts of Maryland. Me,? I'd roll the dice: Keep the ticket and see if there is any follow-up, which is unlikely. Now, if the Black helicopters start circling above your house, I will disavow all of above. This post will will self destruct in 5 seconds...

Parking tickets usually affect your ability to register the car when it becomes the time to renew it. I'm not sure if that carries over state-to-state.

If you were guilty of illegal parking then hold yourself accountable and pay the fine . Just my 2 cents .........

I wouldn't pay a freaking penny if the citation was incorrectly written.
You said yourself your car has Conn plates. Ticket was written for a car with a NJ plate. Eff 'em.......

No. Ignore it.
Had the same lazy police work done to me in California. I didn't get handcuffs. |

Due process... If the cop was too dumb to put down the right info on a parking ticket. They don't deserve the hard earned cash...

When I used to go downtown regularly I would play the parking ticket roulette game. Pop in and out of a place and not put in my dime. (It was a while back) and if I made it just 10 times I was ahead. If I got popped I paid the ticket that day or the next for two whole dollars. I figure I was up about a $1.60 before I quit going downtown regularly. They call me the high roller!

By all means do NOT pay that ticket, NJ & CT have no official agreement over parking tickets, you are free to go.
There is a tempting spot to park here in NYC on the L.E.S. w/ a fire hydrant, it makes the city $50,000 per year. A fire hydrant.

Write a badly spelled letter to the parking authority sayin you got a ticket but they messed up the ID
Leave out your address, name, plate, etc. - just send in the text see if anything happens - if you go to court (unlikely) pull the letter out and show it to the judge you might get off, but even if not it will make for a fun "event" |

"Your debts will not follow you." Bob Dylan
Tickets are automated now here in NYC they write themselves, so the room for error is nil, back in the day though...a pal street- parked his old Fiat, expired meter or something... the ticket issuer wrote Toyota, for that the ticket was not valid.

Another thing to think about, what if someone has the same numbers on their NY plate and because they didn’t illegally park or receive the ticket has no idea of its existence now ends up with a warrant for not paying a ticket?
So, if you are actually guilty of what the ticket says you are, you might just want to pay it or contest it.

Pay the ticket. Sleep soundly. Focus on more important stuff.
