Who's dug their own grave?

Is there any saving in digging your own?

At least $200
I have a friend that did that as a side job....with only a shovel and the wood frame for the size.

That was 20 years ago....now they just use a backhoe.

When my dad died he had pre-planned his funeral. Most of the hard part was done. I had to pay the cemetery $500 to open the grave site and refill it to level after he was interned. I sure was not going to dig that hole. I can imagine a man with a backhoe and a few years of experience can do did that hole in short order.

I doubt they would have let me dig it even if I wanted to.

I should have listened to the voice that tried to tell me that the good times don't last forever, the cute girls stop returning your sly glances, you really should continue your education to keep yourself from getting laid off a few years before you want to retire.

Could have been worse, but there are a few decisions I made that I wish I could rethink....

Graves are over-priced. Cremation is the smart way to go.

Just be sure to leave your jewelry and tooth crowns at home.

This. Then I want a 'viking funeral' with the ashes. Cardboard boat, light it up, preferably off the florida keys.

Probably more savings in a costco casket than digging your own hole. https://www.costco.com/funeral-caskets.html

^^^ Ashes will not be of the one you expect.
Crematoriums wait until they have a few bodies and then cook them all at once.
No reason to do one at a time.

In my case no. My wife bought a spot for me and the digging comes with it.

^^^^^ This. I have paid for my cremation in advance. Instructed my next of kin to not pay for any extras. Just dump me in the river or a dumpster. Thats sort of like digging my own grave.

My mom said "When I die, really, I just want you to throw me on the compost heap."

So after she was cremated and we buried her ashes in a family plot, I put some of the soil from the compost heap in the ground and placed the box with her ashes on that. So in a way she did get her final wish.
