Sim racing

Sim racing seems to be getter more popular. Yeah, I know, nothing like a real car on a real track but hey, you can't die in a sim. I'll still take the car out for a track day or two but I just put down a chuck of change on a new sim racing setup.

Probably will start off with Assetto Corsa.

Purchased an Alienware Aurora 11 PC with the latest greatest Nvidia 3080 video card.
Anyone else as crazy as me out there? Silly, stupid money but hey, YOLO.

GTA Pro cockpit

Triple 27" monitors.

and Fanatec wheel base, wheel, pedals, etc.

Very nice! I like the pedal set-up and the wheel (looks real F1) ...I'll bet it's fun.

I had a cheapie set-up a few years back. Sold it because of how much space it occupied....and it was getting out-dated.

I get motion sickness even when there's no motion involved.

The bits and pieces are being shipped. Should have it up and running in a couple of weeks.

I don’t know if one of these sims would do it, but I get motion sickness as well with arcade type sims.

Never felt that way on the track though.

I built this in my garage over the summer. The seat and ‘rig’ cost less than $100. Then I used an old monitor and computer speakers. PS4 pro and Logitech wheel and pedals set me back close to $700.

Asetto Corso looks and feels more realistic but Gran Turismo has better graphics and is more fun in my opinion.

A few years ago had some help when we choose our Sim components.
We just repositioned it and reconnected it yesterday so haven't had time to bundle up the messy cables.
Next I'd like to get some black out curtains placed behind the screens.

Mine is connected to iracing, where I can find many of the real tracks I race on.
It's a big help to get in 400 laps the week before a race at Streets of Long Beach, Laguna Seca or California Speedway.
I found I can use a newer sim car (C7 Daytona) but limit myself to 3 gears and short shifting creates similar shift points and lap times as my real race car.

Like you went with a similar largest at the time air-cooled Alienware computer.
Very happy with the Direct drive Accuforce wheel.
https://simxperience.com/en-us/products/accessories/accuforcesteering.aspx

For the rig the RSeat N1, solid and looks like a race car round tube roll cage.
I say it's my only race car that I let anybody drive lol.

Across the room from the sim is a 4 lane HO slot car track on a ping pong table.
Car guy stuff to mess with on a cold wet winter day.

I have a similar setup other than the desk. Been looking at the Obutto R3volution since I do flight combat sims as well and that is a whole other rabbit hole for accessories.

I like Project Cars 2 Better than Assetto Corsa, but AC has better mod support. I have a bunch of different apps from Arcade type like Grid series which is fun for the "drifting" portion to the serious ones like AAC and PC/PC2. The Dirt series is fun for playing on the jumps, mud and dirt. GT Legends if you like the old P cars. Grand Prix Legends (with the current upgrades) if you are a glutton for punishment.

During the winter months it is a great way to pass the time.

Very timely thread... out of the blue tonight my son was given a play seat and a Logitech G920 from a very generous friend who upgraded...

This will help Clay’s Racing development big time.

Make sure you get a VR headset, like an Oculus or such. It will change your life as far as these types of games go. No screens can even remotely compare...

As far as games, if you want an arcade style then go with project cars 2 if you want something closer to real life, then get iRacing and join the PCA leagues. It's SUPER competitive in each skill level.
