Raced a Panamera today
OK, no, not really raced but had a lot of fun with very spirited, but safe, driving. But really spirited. Panamera was brand new, it was great to see someone use these cars for part of their intended purpose. I continue to be amazed at how fast and nimble, a word not really associated with a 5000 lb truck, the Cayenne is. It is very hard to keep your right foot out of the pedal.

I have a PTT and mine is a little “tuned”, it can keep up with almost anything, and usually pass them. I wish mine had the PDDC as I think this would make it so much better. Drove a new 4S e-hybrid with rear wheel steering and that thing could corner like no tomorrow.
My wife has a 2012 Cayenne S with air suspension and I have to say it’s the best SUV I’ve ever driven.

I posted about my Panamera test drive last week on another thread but I'm still blown away by how well the base Panamera I drove on Friday was. It really made my Cayenne feel like a truck.
Now I've just got to find the right one to trade my Cayenne in for. Surprisingly, the only RWD model now is the base. I'm not usually one for the base model but now I'm considering it at least if I stick with a 2017 or newer model. On a side note, I was behind a new Panamera 4S on Sunday coming back from the track in my Cayman and they were driving well under the speed limit on a cloverleaf. Very disappointing.

Did the person driving the Panamera know they were being raced? I only ask because I had a person tell me they outran a Mustang GT in a 1 ton diesel truck. I figured the GT driver didn't know he was racing.

Didn’t like mine…. Fast as hell but didn’t do anything exceptionally well.

The Panamera Turbo S Sport Turismo may be the ultimate daily driver for me.

This is the Panamera I would like to test drive.
Panamera Turbo S Hybrid. ![]() From Car and Driver" "Engine calibration enhancements have increased the V-8's output from 550 horsepower to 563. Peak torque stays at 567 pound-feet, and the electric motor contributes an additional 134 horsepower and 195 pound-feet. As a result, combined horsepower climbs from 680 to 690. And with 642 pound-feet of total torque plus a low 5.97:1 first gear, hard launches strain back muscles and rearrange bodily fluids more than ever."

Someone else asked me that, I think I posted a pick in the Panamera forum. I can haul the family with 4 suitcases easy. The only issue is the seats have a little angle when down but a lot of room

We folded down the seats at the dealer and it looked like I could fit 4 wheels/tires in it which is most important to me. The cargo area looks longer and narrower than the Cayenne.
I really like the Sport Turismo but apparently most people don't since the dealer told me they don't stock them and very few people have ordered them. If I was buying new, I'd consider it but I'm not in the market for a new Porsche.

Get off my lawn!
|
Last year our local Porsche dealer held an event for customers. They invited us to the local race track, Hallett Motor Racing Circuit to drive brand new Porsches.
It is a blast to hammer down on a new 911 and feel that power. It is a big different than my old 85 911. At the end of the day they had one of the instructors giving rides in a Panamera 4S, not even the Turbo version. I was in the back seat with two other passengers. The driver said hang on and between the words hang and on he launched with launch control. Oh crap that thing is fast. I had trouble focusing for all of first gear. He did a perfect drift to the side of the track right on the line, and then over the hill of the back straight. One of the guys there has a gutted 944 Turbo track rat with a roll bar, and monster engine and slicks. His benchmark is to hit 100 as he goes over the top of the hill. I can only get to 80 in my 911 there. The Panamera topped the hill at 105, and then he slid it through the bus stop corner and on around the track. What a blast. All with three full grown men as passengers. Very impressive.
