Yay! It had been a long hard winter without my friends the turtles. How are they doing?

I have checked the 'turtle cam' a few times during the night.
They are very active looking for food. When the sun is out...they just relax/sleep.

I do! I just toss it in some noodles and alfredo sauce. I'm getting concerned now.

^^^ I hadn't seen them for a while...so I figured the bigger fish got em. The turtles are too slow.
But yesterday I saw three of them, they're still only about an inch long. They swim in a tight pack for protection? The fake rock in the middle is supported by a milk crate. The holes in it provide a place for them to go where the larger fish can't.

Strange weather here....this morning was sunny and 75. About an hour ago, the wind came up, the clouds rolled in and the temp dropped to 65

Born free.....

This guy, or gal showed up at the gate to our back yard at 6:00 AM. Our male dachshund, Reuben was in full alert mode, and really wanted a turtle sandwich. My wife moved him to the neighborhood common area and came back to bed. Then at 8:30 our female dachshund, Reece discovered it in the same spot, trying to access the back yard. The good news is the gate proved to be a good barrier.

So I loaded Mr. or (Ms.) Turtle into a bucket, put in in the back of the trusty El Camino and drove a mile south to an area along a creek, and bounded by a large field. I set him down and he took off into the woods. The area is full of deer tracks and we had 2.30 inches of rain last night so it is rater wet. It was 59 degrees at the time, but he took off at a good pace.

With our dogs, a turtle, or about any critter is not a welcome or good idea. The back yard is under the protection of Reuben. Toads, rabbits, mice, skinks, snakes, wolves, and grizzly bears are not allowed in the back yard when he is on patrol. I am afraid he would dissemble a tortoise.

Good on ya, Glen!

I have done my share of turtle/tortoise re-location/rescue here. Also buried a few who were hit, sadly. Some humans don't give 2 sheets about the possibility that wildlife may venture onto a roadway. Here on the barrier island we have a LOT of wildlife - all in survival mode. Because of humans.

About a dozen years ago, I had a liver/white Springer Spaniel. There is a swamp behind my house about a quarter mile back and the dog had free run all day long.
In the summer she would bring turtles, and baby ducklings out of the swamp and drop them in the lawn near the house. She would lay on her stomach with them between her paws so that they couldn't escape...until I took them away. She never hurt one of them.

But when she could catch a baby rabbit or squirrel...they were instantly crushed!
