There are many regular Jeep’s and lately a lot of pickups around here. Many remove the doors and ride without. I wonder if insurance companies have any disclaimers for riding without doors. Seems a little dangerous in the event of an accident. Just wondering how that works. I’ve also seen a number of them with a foot peg that goes in the door hinge (when doors are removed) and they drive with their left foot outside the vehicle resting on the foot peg!

Looks good Matt. I’ve ordered a diamondback cover for the bed on mine, hopefully will be here by the end of the month.
Also planning a trip to Utah next spring. Not planning on doing any hard trails, but at least get off the pavement some. Going to hit a few national parks, and whatever else looks good along the way. We have a lot of planning to do, probably stay in hotels most of the time, but also do some camping in the parks. |
Here is a fuzzy pic from a state park not to far away. I’ve got around 600 miles on it already. It’s still going to take me a while to figure this thing out.

Utah is great.
If you plan on hitting multiple parks you might want to look into getting an America the Beautiful US National Parks Annual Pass. It is 80 bucks and covers everyone in the vehicle. Camping fees may not be covered. |
Am I the only Pelican who lately has been gazing and checking out Jeep Gladiators on the road?
Yeah, I didn't think so. |
Late to the thread but wanted to offer my congratulations, Matt on your new Jeep. It really looks cool and best of all sounds like it's going to fit into all your needs.
Thanks as always for sharing - I really enjoy (and learn from) your vehicle purchase threads! |
Agreed on the other posts regarding ceramic. It has the really nice glossy shine of a good wax but lasts about 5 years, provides equal or better protection, and makes the vehicle easier to wash and stay clean longer. I would have to check my records for the exact product but it’s the same stuff on my wife’s E63 that I have been very happy with. As already mentioned the surface prep is the key, ceramic doesn’t correct any flaws so the paint has to be basically perfect before application. This is normally where the cost lies. A friend of mine manages a chain of body shops but does detailing on the side, I send him a lot of work so he basically does it for materials plus his time so my $500 price isn’t the going rate.
Jeep doors come off easily, two torx fasteners per door plus a door strap and electrical connector. Hard to beat the feeling of driving a Jeep with the doors off. Because they have a roll cage I don’t think you lose any strength but obviously your body parts can do some flailing.:) |
