PayPal can kiss my a**

I quit PayPal over a year ago. Now I am getting these email confirmations that I have purchased hotel reservations thru them. Twice in three days for two diff places.

Can't check PayPal...account sign-in won't work anymore. So I can't tell if there are charges.
Called the hotels...both times a guy answered and immediately told me to ignore it.

Should I just drop it....or be concerned?

Unlikely the emails originated from Paypal. Check the address and you'll probably confirm this.

They have all the photos and details of the reservation. And it says it was done thru Hotels.com.

The sent address is 'support@newreceipt'

Sounds like a phishing attempt to me. Is there a link anywhere in the email for you to click to confirm or dispute or anything like that? Whatever you do, don't click any links in the email!

Send a message via AIM to vash
phishing.

hover your pointer over it, and see what the real destination to the link is. don't hate on Paypal. they have never ever reached to me about a purchase I made. it isn't them. (more than likely)

does the email address you by name? or is it "dear Paypal user"??

It addresses me by my email. If I hover over the sent address...it doesn't change.

Better than me - I used pp like once a year or so to buy something from ebay or a private seller on a forum. Went to go buy something last week and my account is closed. No email, no nothing.

Only thing that bothers me about it is ... the lack of email saying "use it or loose it" etc

I haven't clicked on any links...but the message contains a phone number for the hotel.
After a half dozen tries...the guy in post #1 answered.

First off, check your source for the money to PayPal. Does it tie to your bank account or credit card. If it is a credit card, check to see if there are any charges. If not, it is almost certainly a scam.

Prob am...but the hotel details (arrival & departure) and the user name...all seem too much like a real transaction.

Phishing attempt. I unfortunately get all sorts of e-mails of various types.

Your e-mail account is full
Your Bank account/Credit card has been suspended
Paypal this
Microsoft that
Etc. etc. etc.

Could be worse, I get the ones about seeing me watch porn on my video camera and demanding Bitcoin.

My father received one of those. He doesn't have a camera and, barring Devine intervention, couldn't do the acts alluded to in the e-mail...

I agree with above, 99.999% it's a scammer. You linked a credit card or bank to paypal when you set it up. For peace of mind you could check that account for activity.

Like the others said, NEVER EVER use any link in an Email. Never.

Exactly, that's the idea with phishing. So then you click on the (phished) link in the email which is not going to be paypal (will often be a variant like paypal.someDomain.com or paypai.ru or whatever) and try to log in there, and now they have your actual paypal credentials.

I don't love paypal either, but sounds like this one is not on them.

^^^ Dad
Yeah...I'll have to do that, getting info from PayPal won't work...they won't accept my login anymore.
