A bear in the yard, in Norman, OK

I knew Oklahoma had some bears, mostly in the south east parts of the state.

https://www.news9.com/story/60a5d6954979b00be4ab1b8f/game-wardens-confirm-death-of-black-bear-in-backyard-of-norman-home

Unfortunatly the local folks evidently did not know the right dose of tranquilizer for a bear, and they ended up killing it.

A bear near the campus of the University of Oklahoma. Very unusual.

What next, another gator in the metro area?

That's scary. Those will hunt you more so than a bear.

We don't have bears, but several people have lost goats to mountain lions around here lately. They have posted pictures from game cams of them in the goats' enclosures. The goats are probably contributing to a healthy lion population.

When I lived in Fillmore a friend had a few acres of oranges and avacados out in the farm area. He had an Alaskan Malamute that weighed probably 120-150 lbs. One night he heard a "yelp" and went to check his porch where the dog liked to hang out.

Flicked on the porch light and there was a mountain lion with the dog's head in it's jaws. It looked at him and casually leapt over the porch rail with the dog and trotted off into the orange grove.

Bobcats are cool! My mom had the opportunity to raise one when it, and she were young. What happened to the mother was unfortunate, but they raised it, and released it back into the wild.

My grandfather must have been crazy. My uncle had alligator teeth marks on his ass.

Well, excitement over in my pic. The terrifying wild animal in the pic is apparently a particularly large domestic bengal cat named Luna; who has temporarily escaped her house and terrified all the local Nextdoor loonies.

At least it kept them off thinking the Amazon guy was a burglar casing houses for a few hours.

I was going to say that it is the smallest mountain lion I've ever seen, (especially the head), but who am I to question PPOT?

I dont think anyone suggested it was a mountain lion, but i could see it being mistaken for a bobcat at a really quick glance. It is definitely an interesting looking kitty!

I thought it was probably a housecat since it didn't have the tufts of hair on it's ears.

Anyone that lives in Alaska pretty much knows, bears are in the area and they are the top of the food chain.

Like living near Yellowstone. Expect bears as part of the wilderness.

Anyone in Colorado can expect Moose and Elk and few bears. Norman, OK is just an unusual place for any wild bear to find his way to some backyard. We have had a few mountain loins as well.

Our dachshunds have done a great job of chasing off all the bison, mastodons, wolves, and squirrels, and other deadly wild animals from our neighborhood. We have not seen a bison or wolf in many years (or ever) in this area!

Just saying.

Lots of smaller predators here. I leave them alone.

I'm staying in my apartment in the Towers this week and saw this on Nextdoor today, people were going nuts. Weird that there is a Pelican connection.

Just a couple weeks ago around here the DNR finally nabbed a black bear in the parking lot of a major grocery store (Meijer’s) that was terrorizing the garbage cans of entire neighborhoods for months. Everybody knew it was roaming around, numerous sightings but the thing deftly evaded capture. This was definitely NOT a rural environment.
