3 year monitor life
I bought a 32" LG monitor in March 2018, today it started to flicker with a rainbow of rows of vertical lines. HDMI connector at monitor was hot. Got a new cable with monitor off most of the day. Same thing. So I'm getting a new monitor.
iMac is left on 24/7/365 so monitor is too, screen saver kicks on after an hour. Is 3 years good for something left on all the time? Does it go in the dumpster or would someone actually want it?

Why not switch the picture off when not in use?

Good suggestion, I will start to use Sleep or turn it off after talking with friends too.
the main reason for leaving it on is I've never had a monitor go bad.

powerssxving should auto hibernate it. my work monitors are "on" 24/7/365 but auto sleep etc and they go for 5+ years and are still working when replaced. Current 2 monitors at work are 7 years old and going strong.

I've been leaving computers on 24x7x365 for at least 15 years. I've never had a monitor die in 3 years.
I also don't utilize screen savers. Instead I have the computer sleep/kill the monitors after 10-15 mins so they go black and don't utilize much power.

Can’t say I can recall the last time I had a monitor go bad. So three years seems premature.

Especially with modern monitors.

Never had any real issues with LG at work, but we do use the power save on a lot of the workstations, but some are 24/7 in use. We have LG, Acer, Samsung, whatever is least expensive at the time we order them.

I've heard a lot of rave reports of various LG appliances over the years, but I just can't get over the fact that it seems like when they came out, they were "cheap, flashy" appliances. I'm as likely to buy an LG as I am to buy a Hyundai or Kia. I'd even started to wonder/falter on Hyundai with the some of their vehicles getting raved about, but then we've had a couple/few threads here about motors getting replaced at 40k miles, and dealers having stacks of bad motors laying around.

Shoot... I thought you were talking about Monitor Lizards.
I only had one monitor go bad in the last twenty years. Lucky I guess. Now as far as monitors going bad, the Nile Monitor is bad from the day it is born. I have a Peach Throat Monitor Lizard from somewhere around New Zealand's Islands and He is not going bad. Had a couple of South American Caiman for three years and they got donated after they were 48" and 46". Bad ass monsters that had to go because of not being able to accommodate them anymore in a 100 gal tank and two little sons that new better but there little friends would eventually put hands in the tank.

Counterclockwise?

I have 7 monitors in my office/shop and it seems like every year I toss one.
CPU's only last around 3 or 4 years as well.

My LG monitor is 3+ years old, and was a great price, and still working flawlessly.
Before that, my Dell monitor must be 10 years old, and is still working great.

Going from a 27" iMac with 32" to the side to a 42" main monitor with the iMac to the side is quite an adjustment.
And it's funny how small the iMac is now.

I'd like one of the panoramic monitors, so it's like 2 or 3 regular monitors side by side. But not enough to buy one. I'd like one, but I don't need one, and with an iMac, it'd be a waste for me. If I'd gotten a Mac Pro then a huge monitor would have been nice to have.

Those pano's are cool and I could probably get away with only one monitor but really like two for billing and web research projects: look at one, type on the other.
