Less is More ($)!!!

I cant believe I bought this. but I am simply tired of hauling around a big tank (5gal)on 1-2 night camping trips. I have to put it in a milk crate to keep if from battering ramming around in the back of my truck.

I am now kayak fish camping. my kayak in the truckbed pretty much takes up ALL the space, with my fishing rods tucked in next to it. I cant stuff the truck-bed or my rods will break.

It messes with my sensibilities that a tank that is smaller, less material to make, same valve, etc COST MORE!!! I bit the bullet (and it tastes bitter). but it is kinda cute as far as propane tanks go. haha. I laughed at the salesperson at REI trying to peddle the $125 version they sell. it is the same bottle, but it has a cool sheathing.

I have been refilling the green disposable ones for a few years now. Takes some time to weigh them when filling, but do about 6-7 at the same time, so not too bad. We carry them in our RV for our grill.

I got rid of all my green canisters. I ended up running them dry and punched a hole into them so they can be recycled. hole punching was fun. pow pow pow!

Hopefully you don't normally leave a full tank inside a hot car? When enough pressure builds they can vent open. Could really end up POOF! GONE.

On the price, they manufacture less of the small ones, lower production higher cost.

I paid over $50.00 for mine.
The real kick in the head is when it costs me $13 to fill when a 20 lber is $21.
Need to find a place that charges by the pound and isn't called Costco.

Yeah, I got one of those kitten sized ones for the webber too. It still seemed to last forever and very portable. Ha, luckily I have a gas station locally that only charges for how much they put it. I do a cylinder swap when mine is rusty and a refill when it's still OK.

swapping out this tiny cylinder and getting a newer, less rusty one is not an option here. you can trade them of this size?

Sorry. My bad English. I can only swap the regular BBQ sized ones. And yes, I had to pay quite a lot for my little cylinder too.

Around here after a cylinder reaches a certain age (five or ten years old) it has to be thrown out or tested, so I do the swap at that time too.

That size is so handy for camping. They aren’t cheap but it’s perfect for what you are using it for!

We have the same age issue here too Bill.

I also go to a local gas station that charges by the pound. I usually take 4 or 5 of 5 gallon ones when elk hunting and have used them all a few years keeping the camper warm enough not to freeze, or not.

That thing is cute.
