How do you interpret the word "most"?

A very subjective descriptive term... I know

to me...

a couple is 2
a few is 3, 4 or 5
some can be anything depending on the sample size ("I'd like some of those apples"--if there are only 4 apples, I want 2 or 3 of them, if there are 60 apples, I might want 40...I don't want all of them, and I may not want "most" of them.

So, "Most" is more than 50 percent, but not "all" and probably not "almost all"

in a sample size of 6, Most is 5. in a sample of 10, most can be 7, 8 or 9--although, 9 would be "all but one", or "almost all"

let's go percentage.

it has to be greater than 50%. it should be greater than 60% (or else, that would be, just a little more than half)
but less than 90%

very specifically to ME---most is 65-85% once the same size is large enough (+/- 50 items).

Depends on the raw numbers being talked about as well as context.

Say "most" three times

most, most most.

Quick, what do you put in a toaster?

you put bread in. You take toast out.

Hmm

majority = >50%

most is probably best defined by CKelly78Z above, 60-90%, although you could probably make it 60-99%.

51%, I probably wouldn't call most. I'd probably call it majority or "little more than half."
60%, maybe, might be most
70% or more, sure, definitely most
95-100% I'd probably say "almost all" or maybe "vast majority"

Fairly much all. Haha, to further make it subjective.

School kid "I got most of the answers right" means he got 51%

School kid at home ate most of the chocolate biscuits means he left one.

I think this is the most correct answer .... after Sammy's .

"Most" could be a truly miniscule amount of the total, but like many, I usually think of a bigly chunk too when I hear it used.

Next thread topic is "bigly"
