BBC says all electric

Sooner than we think.

I agree with one of the comments below the piece. If the free market is creating such a high demand, why are some governments placing a cutoff date on internal combustion?

We get to vote here.

The USA is not a serfdom.

We don’t follow the “world community” because the policies they push are mostly BS….

In congested cities like London, electric cars makes lots of sense. Even wayyyyy out in the country in Great Brittan is not that far from a city, and certainly not far from a pub.

It will sure make Top Gear a really boring show, unless they leave the island, if all cars are electric.

We discussed this on the electric F150 thread. Many of the points he makes are not as applicable to the USA and some are totally wrong, like car sales tanking during CV.

Worldwide, car sales were down 15% in 2020. US light vehicle sales were down 15% in 2020. Europe was down 24%. China was down 6%.

I say 95 to 99% electric. No reason to prevent people from enjoying high winding sports cars.

That’s a bit deceptive though, dealerships in many states were shut down for months and compounded by vehicle and supply chain shortages. Anybody who has any involvement in new or used cars right now will tell you they are white hot.

And it is now 2021. Worldwide, 2020 was not a good year for auto sales.

By the numbers yes. But the numbers are deceptive because the lots have been barren for a year. It’s a function of supply rather than demand.

In a 2020 world market where total car sales were down 14%, EV sales managed to increase 39%.

The Gumbit idiots never learn. Forcing people to accept something often doesn't turn out as planned.

Electric cars will become mainstream then they out perform gas cars in every way.
Or in order for something to replace something else it has to be a LOT better.

Proportionate to available inventory yes. New and used car inventories have been at records lows and prices at record highs because people have been buying everything that’s available and the manufacturers can’t keep up.

Pretty much says it all. Despite the all out media hype blitz the public will vote with their wallets.

I personally have nothing against electric vehicles and I believe for some it is the right choice . For me I don't ever see one in my future . First off every vehicle I own is paid for . Second I live in a rural community in the mountains . I haven't seen ONE charging station in our town , if it exists I don't know about it .

I live in Ga. but originally from upstate NY and still have relatives there . So once a year we make the trip . When on a long road trip I want to get there as quick as possible , so pulling into a gas station and being ready to head out in 5-10 minutes is critical to me .

I would like to see if electric vehicles/manufacturers can stand on their own two feet without subsidies . I believe in the free market theory . Anyone can make a business work if it is propped up with someone else's money .

I am hopeful that Porsche and it's adventure in bio fuel is a success and copied by other fuel manufacturers . A clean burning fuel that can run existing engines , go through existing infrastructure/pipeline and maybe end up being cost effective has a lot of potential . Just my 2 cents keep the change 😁

I absolutely agree with this part of your reply. If we removed all the subsidies and let the free market choose, I would be interested to see which preference comes ahead. Or get true statistics of purchases. I still think there would be numerous owners of EVs, but far fewer because of no "rebates" or tax incentives.

Same goes for gasoline. I'm curious what the price would be like were there no subsidies for extraction/refinement or production. Also no added tariffs or taxes/fees on imported oil for production, and no corn subsidies for ethanol.

Let EVs and ICEs stand or fall on their own.
