Discount Tire has scratched too many wheels, it get old. Plus, the last time I had my daily in for tires (I usually take wheels in loose) they did not use the factory lift points but just stuck the lift somewhere under the floor.
When it was time for new tires for the Porsche I bought the tires at Tire Rack and brought the tires and Fuchs loose to the Porsche dealer and had then mount them. They came out perfect (and unmarred).

I found a local tire store, which was recommended to me by a guy who restores old English cars. He ended up selling his shop in a divorce and went to work for Bruce Canepa. Anyway the local shop has been great. A year ago, they charged me $75 to mount and balance 4 tires. I told them "No, it's worth more than that", so I paid them $150. The owner told me that if I wanted I could tip the tire installer, a guy named Walter. He gave me back $75 and I gave that to Walter.

One thing I know for sure about all these threads, is that people hate the tire man

(But I bet if you race and have to buy tires the way some people buy bagels, the tire guy bill might get wearisome after a while!)

I personally delivered Fuchs to Al Reed for refinishing. Then I picked them up and drove back to Mesa. No packing and shipping.
Bought tires from Tire Rack, then called Stuttgart Southwest for a recommendation for mounting. Watched the tire guy gouge my freshly refinished Fuch. And when I called him out on it, he lied and said it was already there when he picked it up. I watched him do it, and he looked up directly at me then turned away. They didn't charge me a dime. But I never went back. Finding a great tire guy can be a challenge to begin with. Finding a great tire guy to handle picky siht is ever more challenging.

After my frustrating experience with Discount Tire, Craigster recommended his tire guy, Western Tire in Burbank. I've been very happy there. Even watching their interactions with other customers while I waited--they never tried to upsell and get the customer to buy more than they needed/wanted. That was a fresh change from watching the goings on at Discount Tire.

I have used NTB and Discount both, never had any issues, I dont opt for the disposal fee, and the road side hazzard, it keeps the out the door cost down. I take my old tires to a old tire mounting garage, sometimes get a little cash for em, its good to come out ahead, sometimes..

It takes a certain amount of time to dismount a tire, clean the bead, replace the stem or TPMS, install new tire and then balance. The tech is getting paid, so the shop has to get paid too. Then add in the valve stem and the weights. The shop has to profitable....
I have 25K dollar touchless tire machine and a 5.5K balancer. I am not doing a tire swap for you and balancing them for 80 bucks.... lol But I have this equipment so your wheels don't get damaged and the balance is perfect. At some point, you, the customer has to get value, that value has a different price point for everyone. But we aren't doing more than 2 sets of steel wheels a year, all aluminum (A few Carbon), some wheels are too expensive to repair or replace, hence our equipment choice. By no means do I want to replace a Fikse, HRE, Forgeline, Porsche GT3RS wheel... no thanks, but level of service has a cost. Cheers
