Good point - even if not going higher having it flipping around is not good.

okay - back from the rebuilder. Alt. rebuilt - new bearings, diodes, control module/etc.
Plugged it back into the car and the volts are stable. :-)

I forgot about the slip rings...I'm getting old.
Good for another 168,000 miles. Assuming the bearings are equivalent.

He made a comment that the slip rings were still good.
I don't know if they are or not - when I looked in there they looked okay. At this point it is what it is. In the next day or so I'll order new belts/idlers/tensioners be done with that part of the car for ? 5 years.
