Cool.
Your picture gave me an idea of what I can use a parts cleaner for. My bicycle chain! Thanks! |
post your progress Scott!
speaking of chains..... thats on the to-do list for me...... my chain is a MESS... i've already researched the "how to refurbish your motorcycle chain"...... seems pretty straight forward..... who knows...... gonna give it a try and see how i mess that one up! hahahaha. |
My progress will be glacially slow as this is not a priority, unless my chain breaks of course!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625071953.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625071953.jpg so messing around in the garage...... re-did the swap-meet score gas-cap...... during the swap-meet search i was looking for a rear brake light option..... they were all more or less the same...... all small, some horizontal, some vertical, all red nothing to fancy or "wow" cool factor....... my bike came with a rear brake light, BUT it was trashed..poorly painted and just filthy and grimy and dull...... SOOOOOO................... i took it apart, stripped it, primed it, painted it, clear coated it! i also polished the the actual RED LENSE..... now its looking pretty damn good! i think i will keep it! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625072312.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625072312.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625072692.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625072692.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625072692.jpg |

soooo slowly moving onto other smaller projects.... this time.... the front caliper..... it was a MESS... 30 years of grime, dirt and oil, god knows what else.... it was a mess. needed to clean and strip the paint off and get it ready for paint..... Im having an issue getting one of the pads out... i cant..... not sure where to go from here...... it is wedged in there and it isnt budging... BUT its clean ready for paint....... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625247208.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625247208.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625247208.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625247208.jpg |
Nice work on that piece. Coming along well.
You asked about a mounting bolt which looks to be a double ended shoulder bolt. You want to use good hardware there and you might have to have that made. If I had my old 36" metal lathe I could have done that for you. However. I foolishly sold it years ago in favor of a 7 x 11 mini lathe that doesn't even cut threads. Kick me in the head now. |
thanks Milt!
the calipers were painted pretty badly so it wasnt so hard to clean it up, just a lil patience and effort i guess...... i tried to make some time during the long weekend, got a few lil things done. oohhh ok ok cool...... "shoulder bolt" got it! i had no idea what those were called. "good hardware" ok got it check...... i guess that reasoning is obvious even to me. hahaha well i appreciate the thought on making the bolt........ i wont kick ya in the dome though. :) |
this long weekend......
i tried to carve out sometime during the long weekend... an hour here a couple hours there...... turned out ok and got a few lil things mocked up...... pretty happy overall as the idea in my nogin is popping out onto the bike...... its better than it was so i'm good..... im sticking to that idea/concept.
got a chance to mock up the over all look with the large rear fender..... i love the coverage of the rear tire...... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625585523.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625585523.jpg welded the bolts to the fender for easy install and removal down the road...... |
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625585756.jpg
chopped off the top of the brace, i like the cleaner look a bit better...... fender waterfall flows all the way down with no breaks... i like it better for no reason other than i like it better. gonna throw on some square tube end caps to clean up the end there.... any suggestions are welcome.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625585884.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625585884.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1625585884.jpg cleaned up the dirty dingy fender getting ready to throw on some primer, flat black paint... some kind of pinstripe or something and some matte clear....... |
