More than 30 pelicans mutilated in Southern California

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) — More than 30 brown pelicans have been viciously attacked and mutilated along a coastal stretch of Southern California, a wildlife care organization said Monday.

At least 22 of the rescued pelicans had their wings broken so severely that bones came through the skin, according to the nonprofit Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center.

Officials are asking anyone with information on the attacks to contact authorities.

“We need your help to find whomever is performing this atrocious act,” the center said in a statement.

A total of 32 injured pelicans have been found on the Orange County coast between San Clemente and Huntington Beach over the past eight months, said Debbie McGuire, the center’s director.

More information is expected Wednesday at a joint news conference by the wildlife care center and the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.

“These are very serious injuries that require emergency surgeries and long term care,” Dr. Elizabeth Wood, a veterinarian, said in the statement.

That is just unbelievable. Total sicko that will likely be killing people next. A future serial killer.

I bet it was the pinko commies at the state or wildlife care facility trying to net and mask them because they thought it was too hot and they should be inside.

My vote is that when the perp is caught, their arms are torn off and then the wet end is used to beat them to death.

Was he banned? I have one fully republican forum I love being in, and I never got banned. I was banned in this highly liberal forum, and booted out of another forum. No skin off of my nose, but I would think ziggy is liberal so he should stay? Unless he really broke the rules?

In England this year some cruel person managed to put a sock over a swan's head. Fortunately a member of the public called the RSPCA( animal rescue) and the bird was saved. These are big vicious birds with very powerful wings and strong legs with large feet and a big beak they are only too happy to bite the unwary with, so I would think at least one other person would have to have held it down whilst the sock was fitted.

In Naples, FL last month at the downtown pier. Lots of fishermen lining the pier.

A man..with a pelican and a fishing pole in his arms comes running down the pier headed for his car.
He took the whole works to the local beach patrol station.

A half hour later...a worker comes back carrying the pelican, with the hook removed and releases it into the gulf.
It acted like nothing had happened.
