Whay are cars flying off the lots these days?
I am kinda dumb, but why? I thought people are not working but collecting a check from Sammy. Covid had causes many places to closed up for over a year.
Is it because people have so much gov money being sent to them that they don't know what to do with it? |

Probably some of that related to a economy but I’m not sure that they’re flying off, out here it seems like it’s very low inventory. What I’m getting set to do is lease a new car for the wife. Her existing lease is up in August. So I’ll likely be paying a premium on the new car but what I’m finding is that rather than just turn in the existing lease, I’m going to trade it in since it’s worth about $6000 more than the buyout value. I’ll use that windfall to offset the higher costs on the new car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

US sales were down 15% in 2020. So, a lot of pent up demand. The stimulus money helped but so has a booming stock market. Honda, Mazda, Kia, and Hyundai all had record sales in May.

It probably has more to do with market uncertainty, and fixing up their old car, rather than buying new (the ones not available because of computer chip shortages).

Most Americans continued to work through CV and had nothing to spend their money on, then they got free government money. On the other side of the supply/demand equation the manufacturers were in some cases shut down for months (depending on state) and now are very slowly ramping up production due to supply chain disruptions. So you have people with excess funds and very little supply, that’s why you see empty lots and bidding wars.

Yep...supply and demand. Supply is low and Americans have lots of cash. For cars, houses, boats...it’s a sellers paradise.

i think its about perception. there is such low inventory, what they have is flying off the shelves..but its not a large number of cars. (?)
maybe its like the toilet paper thing..people feeling like they have to get in on the action before everything is gone?

I haven’t seen many cars with temp tags, but haven’t really looked. Every time I drive by a new car dealership though, I notice new cars are almost nonexistent. The lots look empty.

It is simply that: 1. dealerships are not getting enough cars to fill their lots ...so lot's are empty. ALSO: 2. Sales are great. People weren't flying) in 2020, instead of going on vacation they went to the dealership and bought cars and trucks and suv's ...
^ This according to reputable source : a Chevy dealership in FLA...^

no more chips for computers for the rest of the year. what's on the dealers lots is all they have.
I just got the last Challenger 392 scat pack wide body in hellrasen! with a 6 speed!! 3k on the odo and the dealer wants it back for what i paid for it. No chance MAYBE for 70K and ill think about it. And, no heavy duty trucks on the lot. no factory ordering ALL jeeps 10K over list. hellcats are all sold

In a way, it's a good thing that all inventory gets sold. The dealer-ships are happy at least.

The used lots around here have very few cars also. They are paying stupid money to get late model cars. Now is a good time to sell but not so good to buy.
