Windows 98 was my favorite. I'm running 7 on my laptop.

Latest windows update on my wife's laptop screwed up her quickbooks.

Microsoft has to keep upgrading for multiple reasons. Some are the legit reasons trying to be a more secure OS.

I had to update my QuickBooks to the current version to continue to be able to download the bank data feeds. I keep my Win 10 at the latest version. Even my old less used computer. It is so old it is just a 4 core CPU and it is pretty slow. I keep it up to date and keep using it only for a few mapping programs that are way out of date. Those programs have some functions that work great but to update to the current version is 10s of thousands of dollars. For something I use once per month on average, that is insane expensive.

That old computer was one I built in 2010 so in computer years age it is really old.

I will not jump on Win 11 right away, I will give that a few months for the initial bugs to be found. I will be upgrading.

Never, ever use a brand new windows version. I tried the early beta version of Win 10 and ended up giving that laptop away. I could write a few pages of the issues I had with it.

I have finally just 2 months ago upgraded from my Win 7 to Win 10 and now it's all sorted out. I might try Win 11 in about the year 2026 or so.

Today's paper had this bit of news:

"In a challenge to rival Apple, the company also announced that it won’t force app developers to pay fees to Microsoft for using its app store; and that Google’s popular Android apps will run on its new system."

So I can now download something from Google to be tracked even more.

When did programs suddenly become "Apps"? Was a memo issued by any manufacturer that a program will now be called an app?

I can't wait for the new version to screw up my computer more than the last few 10 "upgrades" did! Bring it!!

I've been fighting with my hard drive running at 100% for a while now and from what I've found it's a Windows issue.

From the link in the OP.....
"Microsoft says there are currently about 1.3 billion devices running Windows 10."

That's a lot.

How many of the 1.3 billion are truly happy with the product though?

But if they were happy...they wouldn't want to upgrade.

I have a Dell with W10 and it's been problem free.

Every "upgrade" or "update" seems to diminish my computer's performance. That's why I love Windows!

Most of you prob use your computer for more intensive work than I do. Mine is used 95% for internet and emails.
The Microsoft Defender, that comes with W10, has led to zero issues with virus's for me. With earlier versions, I would get them.

As a layman, Win7 was just about perfect.

Open the hood and be able to find and fix the problem.
Be able to heavily modify it, if that risk was taken.
(The "reasonable doubt" was highly leveraged on the consumer.)

The OS structure was contained to the basic functioning of the computer. As it should be.
It was a foundation.
