Ten year old Frigidaire with ice and water exterior access. Has a water leak. I have turned the water supply off. Still getting a residual leak. Any suggestions? I have yet pull out the unit to take a look.....weird way it has the water supply. Last time it was moved was when hardwood floors went in back in '17.

Usually you see a tap under the sink to the fridge. The original owner's installer tapped into the water line down in the basement.

you have peeked under the fridge at the water tray? you sure its not the water tray overflowing?

Mine is the same...in the basement. Because the fridge and sink are on opposing walls.

i think it does.

its the fundamental way a fridge works. i have a very similar fridge. same manufacturer.

it kept defrosting the coils and the condenser fan couldn't keep up with the blowing air to dry out the drip pan, so it overflowed. in that same corner you have the towel.

so odd.

You have a leaking water inlet valve assembly. It's a $50 part. It looks roughly like this:


Use your model number to find it online. I have a local shop that I can pick up from. You should be able to find one in your area if you are in a hurry. Otherwise, GenuineReplacementParts.com or similar would work.

Sometimes the ice maker will defrost, and condensate things down below. You may want to defrost the whole freezer (food into a portable cooler for an afternoon), and make sure all lines are thawed.

Where is that located? On the back? The fitting at the corner looks to be the culprit. No leaks except right at the bottom hinge where the line turns into the unit.


The water delivery is non functional and the panel doesn't light up as well. The manufacturer wants $100 just to show up and show me an ass crack.

Going from memory, I think the water line for those side by side door fridges often goes up through the hinge itself and into the door. The inlet valve should be behind the kick panel on the left side upstream of the water line that goes into the door. Basically follow that water line back until you get to the valve.

It could be any number of things, but I bet when you remove the kick panel the source of the leak will reveal itself, and my money's on that crappy plastic valve.

Mine has a panel inside the freezer down low. Every few years it will ice up behind the panel. I remove the panel and take a hair dryer or heat gun and melt the ice. Has not happened in about three or four years now. But when it does ice up water leaks out from underneath.

Have the same fridge, have had the same leak. There is a plastic water line that runs diagonally under the fridge from the inlet assembly at the rear right (facing the fridge) to the front left under the freezer door hinge. Then there is an inline butt connector that joins to a another section of water pipe that threads up through the freezer hinge and up through the door to to the water dispenser unit. My issue was the connector. Cheap part. But also check the plastic hoses..they also fail.

You can remove the lower plastic “grill” below the doors by pulling it straight out to see the water line routing.

If the leak is not the connector is also possibly at the join to the water dispenser, and leaking down the line and dripping out the bottom of the door hinge.

If the water is turned off to the ice maker (no pressure) how can it be a fitting or valve?

My Frigidaire leak turned out to be ice build up in the bottom of the freezer.

Astrochex, What did you do to solve the ice build up on the bottom of the freezer.
I've got the same problem. GE side by side refrigerator.

He said he has a leak, then turned off the water and "still had a residual leak" - meaning that shutting off pressure changed circumstances, reducing the leak. Based on a change of conditions due to water shut off, I concluded it was pressure related and not frozen/thawing drip tray or coils.

Whether it is a valve, the butt connector, or some other part of the line, remains to be seen. But if shutting off the water supply had an effect on the leak, I think we can safely conclude that the leak is not related to thawing of frozen water.
