garage fire with 100lb lp tank inside

Amazingly, no one was injured. They are still searching for the tank (1/2 mile radius)
The explosion is at the 2:40 mark. Grand Rapids, MI

^^^ Yes.
There were also fireworks in the garage....you can see some of them in the air before the explosion.
I live about a half hour away.

I used Propane for my gas grill. Every business that sells them, and the refill station I use for mine all forbid bringing that propane tank into the building, and they get real excited when some fool does it.

I store my propane tanks next to my gasoline for the lawn equipment, in my storage shed, in the back yard. 1,000 gallons in the garage is nucking futs. Likely stored gasoline in there next to the water heater.

Good thing the firefighter was not any closer to the house when that tank went up.

OOPS, I added a zero. Still, even a 20 pound bottle is not supposed to be indoors.

lbs, not gallons. That's also different. And I'm pretty sure that the bottom tank in the pic below is 1000 gal.

I keep the LP and acetylene tanks and gas and diesel cans the chicken barn. If there is ever a fire out there the chickens are done for. They shouldn’t be smoking in the barn anyway.

Would save you from a lot of plucking.

Interesting that it appeared not to have spread to the rest of the structure before the explosion.

Watching this make me happy that I got rid of my gas grille, that I no linger have any welding gasses on site, and that my small tanks of propane (for plumbing work) are safely stored a significant distance from any heat source.

I think all homeowners should watch this, especially do-it-yourselfers.

Probably all states have them but I know Michigan has laws regarding firewalls between homes and attached garages.

It means Liquefied Petroleum (Gas). I've seen reference to LPG tanks which I think are the same as LP tanks.

Also might want to watch some battery caused fires as well.
As a former RC enthusiast, where battery storage or charging is done is important.

I worked for BP for 23+ years and learned something from that LP/LPG link.

I've watched some safety training films on how a gas will leak out of a pressurized tank and flow to the ground and lay there in a puddle. Just waiting for a spark....
