4 months no cigs - how long am I gonna dream about them?

About five dreams so far ranging from puffing on one to finding half a pack in a pair of jeans that I'm going to wash.

The half pack I "found", I'm thinking/dreaming, do I stash these for a secret moment of bliss or pour water into the pack.

How long or never for a young senior to be mentally free?

That was a dream half pack. It's not even tangible.

How long will you dream about them? Depends on how long you live.

Whew! It's like the old phrase...quitting is easy, I've done it hundreds of times. Hang in, eventually the dreams will taper off.

It took me a few years...the worst was seeing a smoker draw the cig to his/her mouth.
That habit is tough to get over.
You're on the downhill side...it will get easier every day.

Best thing I EVER did was stop smoking.
I motivated myself with every day I quit.
Though it would be a waste of time to break my streak.
Hang in there.

How long did you smoke? I smoked for a few years, some in college and while in the Army. I quit “cold turkey” right before getting out of the Army…I knew they were going to be like 50 cents a pack when I got back to the states. What are they now…about $5.00 a pack? The hardest times going without for me was with a cup of coffee in the morning and when I was out with the boys for a beer. Still have the half a pack of Marlboros (in a hard pack) that I quit on in 1970! Could you imagine lighting one of those up? Hang in there…it gets easier and you’ll be thankful you did. Good luck!

Couple of years.
I quit over 10 years ago, and every once in a while ......
Best thing I ever did though , I was a heavy smoker, no way Id still be going like I am now had I still been puffing .
If I found out I had cancer and was going to die, the first thing Id do , is run out and get a carton and smoke away .
Good luck man, think of us when you go to light up that smoke next time, and then don't..

I quit a year and a half ago. I had just spent two weeks in China, where I was enveloped in cigarette smoke 24/7 everywhere I went. Came home with half a pack, finished it and just lost my desire to smoke anymore. I got my first craving about a month ago when I met up with an old college buddy who still smokes my brand and was smoking at his house. But I'm around so much second hand smoke and the consequences of heavy smoking in my job, that I don't want to smoke ever again.

Remember that guy in the X Files with the hole in his neck who smoked through it? I have seen that before recently. Woman didn't have much of a mouth or jaw left, so that's how she did it.

Not long. Since about 1972.

Always a pack a day or less. Not that that is admirable.

I quit about 35 years ago after smoking for 8 years. I had dreams about smoking (mostly nightmares) for about 10 years but never smoked again. I would toss all of your existing smokes, ashtrays, lighters, etc... and realize you are a new person. Good for you!

Well.... it's like this Bob... you're a non-smoker now ! Are you gonna take up smoking?

Quitin' is easy... not starting back is a beotch (for some)....

I chain smoked whenever I had a beer in my hand since college.... was as "hooked" as anyone and actually smoked a lot .... 'cause I went out to hear bands several nights a week and abused both... for three decades .

Those daze are over....

Best to ya Bob.... you CAN do this !

Congrats to all the former smokers too... well done!

My brother-in-law retired 3 years ago. He was never a smoker before then.
I asked my sister how he is liking retirement. She said he took up smoking the first year! Mostly cigars...but also cigs. Unbelievable.

It continues to get easier = but never gets easy I'm afraid....

Something that helped me was remembering that a craving only lasts about 5-10 minutes max. So don't think about "how can I do this for the next 40 years" but rather "I just need to distract myself for 10 minutes and i'm fine"

I still have the last pack I bought 10 years ago, 3/4's full.

Just pulled them out of my desk drawer, still moist.
