On the TV show "Good Times" there was a painting featured prominently, called "Sugar Shack" that was also used on Marvin Gaye's album "I Want You". There's two copies both, painted by the original artist, Ernie Barnes. The original is owned by Eddie Murphy; the copy was just sold at auction for 15 million smackaroos.

OK. That makes more sense.

Coun. Justin Di Ciano, who represents Astl’s area, said the spot seems safer with stairs than without them. He has asked his staff to leave them for now while plans are drawn for a more cost-conscious prominent set.

I'd love to hear the justification of $65K.

To pay for 5 or 6 supervisors each driving a $80,00 pickup to stand around and watch the 12 men with heavy equipment over two of three days do the stairs.

Presumably, this guy built it on the super cheap. I suspect whatever the city builds is going to be concrete, etc..., huge project. Somehow they are also going to make it OK for folks in wheelchairs. I'm sure it's going to be huge. $65k huge, probably not, but certainly much more than $1k.

I'm assuming what the guy built was something along these lines.

and what the city will install will probably be more like this.

Maybe another hand rail?

I’m thinking the city would entertain an Elevator. Power would need to be run from the site. Then there is the power consumption and the scheduled and un-scheduled maintenance. Impact to city liability insurance.

I think the estimate is way to low. They will require a Community hearing with 100% acceptance by all 100,000 people in the town. A third party review of the balloting for oversight. In addition, a review of federal-state-county-city design during permitting process, city planing review, architectural review of the design. Review of any animal, insect, mold, fungus, bacteria, microorganisms existing to ensure they are not impacted. Proper un-impeded access pathways for all species to cross the stairway path, both longitudinal and latitudinal. Note, each current and future creatures and amebas need separate access so they are not commingled which could cause one entity to influence the other. Then there is the ADA review and approval process at the federal level. Federal homeless excise tax (ok that doesn’t exist).

Did I forget anything?

There will be cost overrun, that's obvious... By the time they are ready to build, they will have racked up 100K in costs, and then they'll cancel it for being to expensive
stating they will tackle the issue at a later time when they rezone the entire area.. and expropriate the home owners in the process.. problem solved.

"The Golden Jet" has passed away. If you know, you know.

I wonder if he's brawling with Gordie? RIP Bobby.

Unfortunately true.

I'm known to take pictures when I see this exact thing. And I see it fairly often on my neighborhood walks. (Each piece of heavy equipment has it's own driver who sits in the cab watching his or her phone while waiting their turn to be used.)

Yesterday when our granddaughter's class went skating, my wife volunteered to help tie up skates. As she was helping one little guy, he asked her how she knew his name. The kid sitting next to him said, "Your name is on your skates, Dude."

[QUOTE=svandamme;11617893]19. A sport coat is worth 1000 words.

wtf does that even mean?

5. Request the late check-out.
Again? what does it mean

2. Don’t enter a pool by the stairs.
why not?
Ok a splash bomb is more fun, and a sumersault more impressive, but why not the stairs ?

Numbers 2, 5 and 19.... you don't know what they mean? I'm little concerned about you. :)

And I suspect if you were to find yourself in Belgium you would find you were not getting some of the expressions and idioms.

In fact, let's try a few.
In Germany, "Do you have a bird?" Does not mean the same as it does in Australia.
In Australia, "Rooting " can be done by gardeners, but not necessarily.
In the UK, you are not being propositioned if someone asks if they can,"knock you up in the morning. "

Regional variances in language are fascinating.
