The day I knew was coming hitme in the face this morning

The day I knew was coming hitme in the face this morning
My sweet Teener, who I rescued in 2006, the last time I saw my buddy Phil before he lost his battle with Cancer. I was coming home from Phil's hours and as I rounded the corner on my street I saw something tiny in the road. I stopped and there were two tiny kittens that some ******* threw into the road. As I got out to investigate, one took off, the other was laying in the road, so I picked her up, wrapped her in a towel and took her inside, and didn't see any injuries but she was very week. After I got her settled in I went back outside and across the street to find the other kitten. Two hours later, I finally caught her, she was very Feisty but was so tiny that her claws and teeth couldn't break my skin. Once inside, I fixed them an area and the sister sat in my lap all day while I worked, sadly that evening she passed
Teener on the other hand was adjusting to her new home, one I had a big Black Momma cat, who Teener loved to torment, climbing on her back for a ride or just to lay down.

As Teener grew, she just got cuter and loved to jump up the door jams and slide down.
In time she grew up to be a good sized cat, never tried to go outside (until recently, as she was curious about my feral colony out the front door).
She grew into a big dominant kitty .

As some of you may remember, last year, she was sick and the vet said that she had a peace of plastic lodged in her intestine, so the operated on her, but while in there the found some cancer.
So off to the kitty cancer doctor for a treatment plan .

They worked out out a treatment plan and we started that and her chemo . We knew that she was already on borrowed time, but she got better, kept her appetite (and I tried all the special foods for her, but she was a very picky eater, so I would also buy fresh salmon and other fish, turkey and chicken, beef, and whatever she wants) and stayed active.

She gained weight, but never like she was and she wasn't grooming her self but she would get in my lap and I would have to work from my Zero Gravity Perfect Chair, which since I was still recovering from my accident, so it worked out for both of us . She had never left the house prior to her getting sick, as I had a vet that made house calls and he gave all the animals their shots at the house, but riding in the car, she wasn't happy and the vet said that she was stable and was surprised that she was still alive, but since there was nothing else they could do and we didn't want to traumatize her and more, just to keep her comfortable and make sure she wasn't suffering .

Well, she had good days and bad days, but she wanted to be in my lap and around me more than she ever has. Almost no matter what I was eating, she wanted some (or all) of it, including bread, potato chips and last night she wanted some of the Whit's Frozen Custard custard that I brought home, but it was clear that she lost some weight and was getting weaker. Well, when I got up this morning, Cayman was at the foot of my bed, being quiet,(he nor her are ever quiet when I get up, they yell for their breakfast.
I walked into the kitchen, looking to see if she was on her bar stool and right past it, she was on the ground, looked like she died and fell over, it wasn't that long before I came out that it happened. Looks like she went quickly and painlessly, she didn't hide or avoid me and was happy until the end.
This really hits me hard as the timing that she came into my life I had lost a few of the people closest to me and wasn't in a good place in my life.

I'm so sorry, Byron. It's very tough to lose a member of your family.

It really sucks to lose a pet, but I think the joy they bring on a daily basis for years outweighs the pain at the end. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. At least it was quick and painless.

So sorry. We create strong bonds with our little friends and it hurts so much when they pass. I always wonder why god gave them such short lifespans.
Take care Byron! She doesn't want you to be sad.

Those who have never loved a pet or suffered through the loss of one...I feel sorry for.

Our last cat died November past...I miss him terribly. But being in my late 70's, have to admit a cat would probably outlive me..so nevermore.

My condolences, Byron.

What a wonderful sentiment.

I would add, Byron, "for all the right reasons..."

I love cats, adore cats...we lost one a few months ago and I still look for her once in a while.

Best.
